sample applications
Before we further explain what we're looking for in applications that are accepted in this game, we'd like to link a few that have been rather outstanding examples of things we're looking for.
✖
Lily Potter ( Harry Potter )
✖
Heine Rammsteiner ( DOGS: Bullets & Carnage )
✖
Tony Stark ( Iron Man )
app explained:
We're also including a more "in-depth" look at filling out Zodion apps to hopefully clear up any lingering questions players new and old may have. We're only going to discuss the major points of the application here as we really do not need to rehash your name/character's name/etc.
✖ CHARACTER:
Name:
Canon:
Info Links:
Canon Point:
Age:
All of the above should be self-explanatory. These are minor (albeit important) parts of the application overall, it's still imperative that you fill everything out to the best of your abilities.
PB/Image:
If you are apping from a book or characters of not human nature, this is required and important to show on the application. We need to see exactly who your character will be portrayed by-either by a name/picture combo or you can even link us directly to the icons of the journal you will be using for the character.
Gender:
This section is especially important if your character is physically one gender, but mentally another. If this is the case, we simply ask that you make this rather important note on your app. If your male character simply acts more feminine than masculine but still uses he-he's still male. The same for females who act more masculine than feminine. She's still female. Your headcanon of characters longing to be another gender does not fit into this category. Whatever gender they claim in canon, that is what we go by. This is not meant to offend anyone as we know how touchy of a subject this can be, but we follow canon for judging apps, not your own personal feelings.
Birthdate/Sign:
This is one of the important spots on the application. And, it's only important for those character's that are given no canon birthday. It seems silly to put a lot of stock into this section, but the core of this game is based around the zodiac so, yeah, this is important.
When you fill out this section of the app, give canon support as to why you chose the sign you did. We're not asking for a huge opus to be done here, but a few key traits (both good and bad always help your case more) explained in detail help immensely. And we're talking like tops, a sentence on each trait you pull from the examples we've given (or even those you might have researched on your own).
There have been a few times where the app team was in disagreement with the applicant over the sign chosen. In the event that happens, we DO ask for a revise on the section and state the sign we prefer. Our opinion is not the be-all-end-all of this discussion. The app team will listen to your side if you feel strongly about the original sign chosen. However, if it's clear personality traits are being misinterpreted, we will have to be more firm. Something like this probably comes off as sounding unfair, but in order to accurately stick close to the core and plot of the game, it's important to us that each character be brought in under the appropriate sign.
We reserve the right to revise or reject if this section isn't up to par or does not adequately encompass the character in question. We do make mistakes and, again, are open to applicants defending what they've initially chosen-but please keep in mind to keep your rebuttal out of hostile territories and respond to our app team like an adult. To lash out and continually hound the topic isn't fair to you or to anyone on our app team.
And, of course, if your character has a canon birthday, explaining this section isn't necessary at all. Just simply make the note on your app that this is canon and you're good to go.
Tattoo:
This section should be pretty self-explanatory, but we're going to make a few notes anyway. When your character arrives in game, their tattoo will be the lightest color found on the chart
HERE! It will be very, very close to flesh colored! Only a faint tint of the corresponding sign color will be noticed. You do not get to choose what color on the color scale the tattoo is!
Game tattoos cannot replace canon tattoos. If you overlap them or say in your app it's covering a canon one, we will ask for a revision on this section!
Suitability:
This section is required for those characters who are under the age of 18 in their canon! Right now our age limit is 15, but we will accept 14 if this section can prove the character can handle themselves in this sort of environment. We also ask that this section be filled out for any character coming in that is not originally human (i.e.: android, my little pony, etc etc) as they will have to adjust to being a fully functioning human.
Go into as much detail as you can! Give canon evidence and support!!
What we're looking for in this section is not only how the character would cope in sexual situations but all adult situations-which includes sex and violence and day to day life existing on their own as sudden adults.
Sometimes there are characters in canon who have a very childlike mindset but are of age. And sometimes having these characters in game would make others uncomfortable, so in the event that this happens-we may send a revision request for this section to be filled out.
Power:
This only pertains to those characters not taking a game power. If your character has no canon powers or if you don't want to keep a canon power, just choose a game given one from the list provided
here.
When filling out this section, do not list and explain every single power your character has. This gets confusing and tedious to read over. Only describe the power your character will retain upon game entry. Please also keep in mind that the power they come in with, will not be at full strength! You are free to offer a suggestion on how you think the power should be capped! In fact, we love when players do this (as it especially helps for canons we're not all that familiar with)!
However, if your cap is not fully efficient, we may offer an alternative suggestion. We don't normally ask for revisions on this section, just offer different suggestions on how to better tailor the character's power to fit into the game setting.
Personality:
What we're looking for in this section is your interpretation of the character! We do not want to see wiki articles summarized. The personality section is not a history section! While we do look for canon events that helped shaped the character being apped, we don't want a full on history of everything. Major events that show aspects of the character's personality, basically.
There are also canon relationships that help shape and change characters. We like to see those as well. Sometimes characters only show a certain side/aspect of their personality around certain other characters, so that's something we'd like included as well.
Events and relationships are canon evidence that provide backup to personality traits. If you approach it that way, this section becomes less daunting.
First-Person Network Entry:
This sample can either be what you're going to use for your character's intro post or it can even be an example of a post after the character has been in game for a while. The choice is yours. Which ever way you can adequately portray your character's voice is fine with us.
It's fine to use action brackets in here, but what we're really looking at is how the character speaks. We want to see that you have a firm grasp on the character's voice--which means we need more than one sentence of dialog (be it spoken or in text form, depending on the sort of entry).
Do not write prose for this sample!! Network posts are not prose.
Third-Person Prose Entry:
Alright. What we're looking for in this section is character headspace. We want to see that you have a firm grasp on not just their speaking voice, but also what's going on in their head and what motivates or prompts them to do the actions they do.
For this section, you are free to start in their canon and show the sudden arrival into Zodion--or you can just start out in Zodion. Whatever the case may be, give us introspection! If this section relies too heavily upon action, we will ask for a revision.
The only requirements for this section are:
1.) It must be 200 words (minimum)
2.) The character's discovery of the tattoo
Everything else is up to you. Those two things are the only requirements! That's not much to ask nor is it hard to complete. We understand that the arrival situation is rather tedious, but this is the only way to accurately judge everyone on even footing. It's the easiest way to judge how you can handle a character outside of their own canon. As of right now, this situation will not change.
As an aside: you do not have to include the body of the letter each character gets. In fact, we'd typically prefer if you didn't include it, but we have gotten some excellent samples that have. But, it's most definitely not something required.
