There aren't enough hours in the day

But there are shortcuts.

As I've said before, I'm consistently about a year behind. In keeping with that tradition, I did not pick up Will Hindmarch & Jeff Tidball's Things We Think About Games at Gen Con, but I did just finish my first read through of last year's Hobby Games: The 100 Best. I'll be re-reading it with little post-it flags at ( Read more... )

I've wanted to play Acquire for many long years, but have utterly failed to do so. However, I can highly recommend Tigris & Euphrates. (You can play online at BGG, BTW). Bought Hobby Games, the Best 100, at GenCon, finished it yesterday, but don't really have any intention of reading it again. There are many, many games of historical importance on the list that just don't hold up any more, and my "want to play" list is already so much longer than my actual free time allows... I mean, do you really have time to play Empires in Arms? Or are you really going to devote precious RPG time to Traveler when you could be playing Hellas?

Empires in Arms? No. I have actually heard good things about the latest Traveler, and there's always Spirit of the Far Future, the fan-made Traveler homage based on Fate.

Of course, if we're on the subject of Traveler homage, maybe maliszew's Thousand Suns is the way to go.

I might not ever get around to playing those, but it's nice to know that they're all there.

If, on the other hand, we've transitioned to the subject of Fate-based sci-fi, I do have Starblazer Adventures in my hot little hands.

Anywho, I wasn't interested in Hellas until you said something. I'm not sure how I drifted so far off topic, either...
