Until a few days ago, I hadn't been to the Veteran's Hospital in about six months.  The most striking thing I noticed was how many more amputees there were.  It used to be that most of the amputees were old diabetics; they probably still account for the highest percentage, but there were quite a few younger amputees this time around.  Missing an ( Read more... )

It's Anne of Anne & Gilbert. We've noticed the same thing at the Balboa Naval Medical Center here in San Diego -- lots of people hobbling and shifting around without all four limbs. I guess there's so many still to come home that way that the Navy's opening a special center just to work with amputees.
