A couple years ago this would have pissed me off...now? I just have to agree in all steads.
I also think there needs to be something about everybody learns differently. Find someone or someway for all of it to make sense. When we figured out I'm an audio learner it made all of the difference on how I got things...it just clicked.
What this fabulous lady said! Including the learning differently. To me a past experience of being coached (sucessfully) in any athletic endeavor makes a WORLD of difference - gender regardless.
In regards tot he Assessment segment, i would add that there is a physiological difference between genders that does actually force a modification to how a woman is being told to do something. Hips and breasts (God love em) do in fact "get in the way" of fighting, and its not a simple matter of getting used to it. Female fighters needs to overcome this difference and learn to move their bodies more than guys to get around the differences. And as you say, how that change is applied and what needs to be done to be successful will be different for each person, male or female.
I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of the rest of the post.
I'm not at all saying that they can't adapt their bodies, but the fact is that the skeletal structure is different between men and women, and as such movements may need to be different for a woman than a man. Its not a limitation, nor an excuse, nor a challenge to their future potential. They are just different and need to take that into account. Same way i need to take into account my joint issues and certain shots have to be thrown differently or risk causing further injury to myself.
the point is that you as a trainer cant determine that as a generality whereas it is common it is not standard and you cant tell someone they need to overcome something that they may have already overcome it is arrogant to think that someone with the propensity for combat has not thought about how there body would do those actions
I'm gonna see if I can talk rabbit into reading this. I think he'll give you some good feedback.
As for me, a former fighter in a different game, yeah, it's all pretty accurate. Like Dan said, women have certain body parts and they have to learn to work around those in order to fight properly. Learning styles are extremely important as well. No argument here, just agreement. @~>~~
