I agree on your last comment. It's like writers don't remember the first 5 seasons of SPN.

Well I do think that's half their point. I don't at all think it's a case of amnesia on the writers part. The boys tend to be hypocrites, love them as we do.

Think of your finals first but come back with picspam for this episode because ngh yeas the meta was awesome. I'm geeking out over it. OMG so many layers in this one. LOVE.

While the realization that Cas has joined the 'dealing with a devil, reap the consequence' club was awesome, the idea of those three passing judgment on Cas when they BUILT the clubhouse? Is kinda comical. I must admit. OH BOYS.

Dude, I beg to differ (what a surprise, eh?) but they have no forgotten their past. And Cas was already in the middle of it with the lying and the misdirections before he went full on board with Dean and Sam and Bobby's side. This is his second slip into lying from Cas that comes after THOSE EVENTS. And this is why Dean reminds him that when there's a problem they don't do deal with a demon AGAIN, but try to fix it in another way.

p.s. the green associated to Cas was a huge flag. y/y? *g*

Oh, no, trust me. I don't think they haven't forgotten their past, that past layered on top of this is what makes it all the more interesting. My observation is more on the level of, OH BOYS. Because they don't get the narrative we got, and Cas doesn't offer it up, so their reactions are purely a springboard of hurt and betrayal and thus risk making an enemy out of a friend. There's a meta somewhere in there on masculinity and the inability to communicate effectively to the people your closed to. Dean's reaction to Cas was eerily on par with S4 and finding out about Sam's own activities, and I think that is absolutely intentional. There is just as much a story in the brothers reaction as there is on Cas's wrongdoings. It's fallible human beings (and other beings) fucking up despite their original intentions, and how choice while beautiful is also nasty as hell, and I thought the plot displayed all of that PERFECTLY ( ... )

Mmm I don't think the judgement of Cas is around what he is doing or the choices he has made as much as the fact that his actions were cloaked with lies, and relied on the deception of the people who trusted him most... But I could be putting my own gloss on (as usual)...
I look forward to seeing your full colour analysis when your exams are over!

Oh, of course it definitely is. But then again, the lies are choices as well, yes? And the boys have all done their fair share of trying to lie and deceive those who trusted them most. I love the sticky web they weave in SPN with all the past layered on top of it, and this move just magnifies the past times 100%! As I said to smilia above, I wasn't very clear last night on account of it being 3am (hee) but the comicalness I find it is not at all something I have a problem with, but something that inspires a good chuckle, because it makes this episode say just as much about the boys and their reaction to Cas, as it says about Cas and this wrongdoings itself.

Don't resist! DO NOT RESIST! Well, okay, resist until after finals. *g* THEN STOP RESISTING!

There was a reason the boys are passing judgment on Castiel, and that's an easy one - to see someone who's watched you make your mistakes then deliberately enter into a similar deal is its own level of betrayal, particularly when he's spent time trying to help you undo (or undoing himself) what's been done. He's seen the damage lying can do; they thought he had changed post-fall. So it's a betrayal on several levels.

That's it exactly! I said above, it was 3am when I posted this, so my comment on the comicalness on it probably doesn't read well, but my reaction to it was definitely more a good chuckle, precisely because of this. The layers of the past just make it all the more juicy and excellent, not just in telling a story about Cas and his choices, but on continuing a story on the boys and their own reactions to it. It was all done very pointed and telling and never before have I been so sure the show knows and embraces every piece of its history like I was last night.

At some point, you'd think I'd get used to the shun factor o SPN enough, but they always seem to hit when I least expect it!

Ah, I'll have to use it as a procrastination killer. 'No picspamming until you're finished studying!' should be a good driver, eh? hahha. Maybe I'll get time before the finale airs.
