I didn't know at all Shinobu's race is a big deal. The fact is Shinobu (Shinobu Brooks) is from Hawaii and has a Japanese name; this means to mainland Japanese like S51 that she is an "Islander" and they are always portrayed as having dark/tanned skin no matter what.
I just take everything with a grain of salt on Suda51's games (Though Killer 7 is very deep). Suda51 likes to play with themes, racial concepts, Americans vs. Japan with a whole lot of hilarious parodies, breaking the fourth walls and black humor.
NMH 1 and 2 has a cast diverse of many races like Sylvia being half Japanese, half Ukrainian, Captain Vladimir being Russian, Letz Shake is Singaporean and Travis and his brother, Henry themselves are with Irish blood, so on.
So I am not surprised the author would explore into racial themes but you're right, I think he may be looking way too deep into it haha.
Despite that I agreed with 90% of the author's viewpoints, there was something about Travis' encounters with NMH1's bosses that I just liked more.
Oh the Fourth Wall breaking, i love it! Fighting Skelter Helter, "Oh fun, you get to go through the Tutorial again!" he'll say it if you drop below half-health.

You're very smart Eve, what's your opinion about Shinobu's fights? A great allegory for the black's struggle for equality? Or Shonobu being a bad-ass femme fetale, kicking a Bond-homage boss and old NMH1 Boss' asses?
Personally, I would say Shinobu's a badass female protagonist than a representation of a Black girl vs. a pompous White man. While the game tries to sell her out as a sex symbol (like her shower scene saves XD) but it's No More Heroes! Every girl char is shown as sex symbols with BRAINS and personality, Shinobu is just pure kickass who doesn't need to be super seductive and she genuinely respects and loves Travis. Very honorable girl she is too

._. Wow. The more ya know, eh? [I never knew]
But yeah, I think the author was looking WAAAY too much into the "racial overtones" about the game.
