I don't know if it's because I'm reading a sporking of this fic, but I'm getting paranoid about the new POTC movie. Blackbeard's in it and so are mermaids. Every time I think of that, I think that the writers are going to make Jack fall in love with a mermaid or Blackbeard's kid. But that's what reading badfic does to you, right?

I know what you mean. I feel the same way.

The good news is that I'm fairly certain that the mermaid isn't going to be Jack's love interest. From what I've gathered, she's captured by sailors/officers or whosits at some point and there's a guy who is trying to protect her.

The bad news is that Penelope Cruiz's character? She's the daughter of Blackbeard who has a history with Jack and looks like she could be the love interest. I don't think her name is "Kate", but it bodes ill.

Oddly enough, despite sounding anachronistic, Printed Ink claims that "timeout" was used since the mid-17th century, so... at least one tiny bit of fail averted.
