One of those topics where I have no idea whether this is normal (for a fan) or very strange

Dec 16, 2008 23:44

Today at 2:30pm my new fannishness for Boston Legal reached the point where I was pretty sure that if I were to die today, my main regret in my final moments would be not having seen more episodes.

This might be too morbid for some people's taste, though I don't see it that way )

fannishness, persuaders, boston legal

Actually, it was your recent post that inspired me to write it down. "I'm not strange, I'm me!"

Wow - thank you :) I'm finding a lot of freedom - and not a little personal power having let go of that particular story.

Also, much yay for Boston Legal - because it is utterly for the win! :)

I don't find this at all strange, because I have the same sort of attitude to death. I actually believe that thinking about how easily our lives can be extinguished, on a regular basis, is important for keeping things that happen to us in perspective.

On a fannish note, I clearly remember as a teen fervently hoping that I wouldn't die before The Empire Strikes Back was released!

And oh yes to the joys of finding a sought-after DVD in JB and pouncing on it!

Excellent, glad to hear someone doesn't think it's strange. And I was pretty sure you'd be someone who'd be willing to engage with this, so thanks for that ( ... )

This is the thing I adore about enthusiasm (whether it is fandom based, life event based, sport, whatever) - it just makes life so pleasurable. Having something (something which inspires and prolongs enthusiasm) to look forward to is important in creating happiness for myself.

I totally understand what you mean when you talk about deferred gratification versus "I need to see/do this now".

I, too, tend to wait for DVDs to be on sale before I buy them, but when it comes to things that I'm crazy in love with, full price is still excellent value for the pleasure it will bring me!

The way I was feeling yesterday, I'd've been happy to pay the full price for the box set just to see the two episodes I watched last night!

Sounds to me like you've figured out the secret to happiness. Go you :-)

My brother was often criticised for being impulsive, but at the end he was content and had no regrets about the choices he'd made. It was a good thing.

And I've just touched a tiger "before I die" and I'm still around, better than ever.

I don't know whether I'll be as content in practice as like to I think I am in theory when the time comes! That'll be interesting.

I'm glad the tiger experience was so fulfilling! (If you enjoyed it even half as much as I enjoyed watching Boston Legal last night, it must have been fantastic!)
