If terrorists were going to blow up bridges and tunnels, they wouldn't be making their bombs look like Lite-Brites.

I disagree, actually. Perhaps this is true of Islamic extremists, but those aren't the only sorts of terrorists. I could easily see a domestic terrorist doing that (just like our flyers used to paint pinup art on their fighter planes in WWII).

I dunno. I tend to think that all but the most fanatical terrorist would avoid making a bomb look like a kids toy....

I could be wrong. But it just seems as if it goes against our most ingrained instinct -- don't hurt a child. Then again, so does killing oneself.

Eh, it's probably arguable either way. It's more likely that terrorists would not want to call attention to their devices, but not out of the realm of possibility that they would be disguised in a way to make them seem un-threatening.

Do you think the person trying to sell one on eBay will be sued by the rightful owners of the sign? (Or does this fall under 'salvage rights'?)

Hrm... I suspect it simply falls under salvage rights. This isn't even equivalent to someone stealing a poster from a bus stop shelter since no one paid for ad's space.

You could be right. It just seems illogical to me that anyone would disguise a bomb as something that would attract the attention of children. Of course, no one ever said terrorism itself was logical....

Well, hey you never know. We could be up against terrorists that know our love for the Cartoon Network. :)

Hmm, it seems a bit disingenuous for Alvin Rosenfeld to attack liberal Jews who criticize Zionism and the Israeli state, when there are contingents of Orthodox Jews who have vocally opposed this since the beginning.

Not all Orthodox Jews are politically conservative. Not all Reform Jews are politically liberal. This isn't an attack against Jews who adopt a lower level of observance, but against those who are politically liberal to the point of advocating the dissolution of the Jewish state.

The problem, as Rosenfeld sees it, is with those who are *politically liberal anti-Zionists*, whether they are strictly Orthodox members of the Neturei Karta, Conservative or Reform Jews. Groups of all Jewish sects have been anti-Zionist at certain points in their history. In fact, the Reform Movement as a whole was anti-Zionist through the early half of the 20th century and is now Israel's largest supporter. In all sects, the modern anti-Zionist movement is a small minority.

Opposing Israel’s settlement of the West Bank or treatment of Palestinians “is, in itself, not anti-Semitic,” he writes; it is questioning Israel’s right to exist that crosses the line.I agree with this position. As far as I can see, those who want Israel dissolved don't seem to ( ... )

Sorry, I should have said "...the majority of those who want Israel dissolved..." and restricted that statement to non-Jews. I doubt most Jews are in favor of another Holocaust, even if they feel that Israel's existence is unjust.

Yep! I love this story. Beautiful work. Check out the gallery!

She's released a book of eikanji, too. There was an additional article I didn't post, as well.

By the way, your post on Eric Mandia cracked up my entire office. Thank you! :) I'm sorry you went through that, but what a total moron. :)
