So I'm finally starting to think about selling my dad's stuff, starting with his guitars. This is mostly because they are all being stored in my bedroom, and it's quite cramped in there, but I can also make quite a pretty penny off of those guitars as well ( Read more... )

I suggest eBay for the more expensive/high-end stuff (if there is any) and craigslist for the other stuff.

I'd also be interested in seeing what you have. XP I've been looking to buy a new guitar.

First thing... do you have any music stores nearby? I would say call them, tell them you have some instruments you are looking for sell and you want to know if they could look at them and give you some sort of idea of what they would be worth. I would take them to a couple places just so you have a more "real" idea. Once you have had a couple places give you estimates you will know approx what they are worth ( ... )

Awesome. Thanks for your thorough suggestions!! There are a few music stores in Anchorage that I think I'll take some of the guitars to be appraised...I'll probably just do it three or four at a time, since there are (I think) thirteen guitars, an electric mandolin, and two amps that I need to get rid of. And they're all quite nice. Oy!

I agree with sindawg - get those babies appraised!

Also, depending on the prices and what they are, I might be interested in one as a gift for someone. I might have to make you payments, though. If you'd be willing, that is :)

Alrightyroo. I'll make sure to let everyone know once I do get them appraised, then I can let you know what I have available.

you may not know this... cyber_shane September 8 2009, 02:09:21 UTC
but I used to sort of "support myself" by selling on ebay. The paypal thing, and all the bs you have to put up with is dumb. But you should def. search on ebay for the same merchandise to get an idea of how much it will be selling for. Then, save the fees and the paypal nonsense and put them up on craigslist first. Take good pictures, and if you like the ebay description, by all means steal it to use as your own.... or edit it accordingly. If they don't sell fast on CL, then maybe get set up on ebay. Best of luck, and happy selling!!
