So I'm finally starting to think about selling my dad's stuff, starting with his guitars. This is mostly because they are all being stored in my bedroom, and it's quite cramped in there, but I can also make quite a pretty penny off of those guitars as well ( Read more... )

First thing... do you have any music stores nearby? I would say call them, tell them you have some instruments you are looking for sell and you want to know if they could look at them and give you some sort of idea of what they would be worth. I would take them to a couple places just so you have a more "real" idea. Once you have had a couple places give you estimates you will know approx what they are worth.

If you list them on Craigslist, provide the 4 good photos of each of the items, price it a little higher then what they appraised for (cause you know you'll be talked down) and make sure you set a "I wont go below" price for each item BEFORE someone shows up so that you are prepared to turn them away.

I've sold things on ebay and its not bad. You can also sell on Amazon, just FYI. Just find out the exact make and model of each item and find if its currently be sold on Amazon and you can click the "Sell Yours" button.

They may be taking up room but dont "give them away" if they truely are worth a good penny. Be patient and you'll sell them. For me, as a buyer, I want a lot of pictures of something before I go out to look at it.

Awesome. Thanks for your thorough suggestions!! There are a few music stores in Anchorage that I think I'll take some of the guitars to be appraised...I'll probably just do it three or four at a time, since there are (I think) thirteen guitars, an electric mandolin, and two amps that I need to get rid of. And they're all quite nice. Oy!
