Used to be when a government collapsed during the Olympics, athletes wound up stranded in the host country. I'm not sure the Dutch athletes even know they're headed home to a governmentless country. And I'm certain they don't care.

I'm not going to have time (nor are all the medals going to be awarded) before Shabbat to do a full medal update, but I'll point out that at this point, Norway's weighted total is 28 with 10 total medals, while Germany's is 27 with 11. I will have a complete(ish) Olympic wrapup some time this week, but I wanted to do this separately because I think it’s important it not get lost in a larger piece and it is about more than merely this Olympic Games.

There are largely two ways medal counts are done by the international sports press. I don’t like either of them.
