Interestingly, it's almost ordered by number of medals.

Early on Switzerland, with three gold, were ahead of a couple other countries with more total medals. It tends to smooth out at the top over the course of the Olympics while becoming more impactful for the countries with midrange number of total medals.

There is room in this world for the acknowledgment of more than one person in any endeavor. The final times for the Mens 1000m speed skating race were separated by less than four seconds top to bottom. These men across the board are better at this than anyone who would possibly read this and they are owed recognition on that basis alone.
