[Camarilla] The time has come

May 13, 2009 14:55

I have been a part of the local Camarilla since September 2006.  In that time, I have observed the steady, inexorable decline of membership.  Simply uttering the word "Camarilla" is enough to convince the vast majority of local gamers to stay home or find something else to do.

When you really look at it, it's easy to see why.

The Camarilla is ( Read more... )

Let's look at who benefits from the Domain's affiliation with the Cam, and who suffers.

I can think of 3 members of the domain who attend games regularly and are still interested in participating in the Global setting. Three more who visit regularly.

How many gamers are out there who don't play Requiem at all because the only games are Cam games? With the recent exception of Hunter Fridays, Cam games have monopolized every Friday and Saturday evening. To run an non-Cam game opposite those games has been looked down upon in the past as rude.

So who benefits from our continued affiliation with the Cam? Who suffers?

So maybe we shouldn't shut down the Domain. After all, I'm not a member anymore, so I have no real say. However, I'm not going to stand by and watch anymore as four people monopolize every Saturday evening while at least a dozen gamers stay home.

When did you not become a member? your membership lapse or something or did you quit?

My membership lapsed... three months ago I think? At the moment I just don't have the $20 to renew, but then I kind of started thinking about it... and this is the result.

Just to clarify, I have changed my position. I don't think any longer that the local Cam should be destroyed, only that there should be alternatives available on Saturday nights.

There are alternatives on saturday nights, Shadows Crossing plays opposite from Cam games is generally at the same location.

My suggestion is to take what nights are currently availible for cam requiem split them up, allowing for nights to have the cam requiem game and the other be a troupe game so that would give either option 1-2 nights a month to play.

When I left the domain to the Myst, yes it was to be the DST there and to help out because I saw myself doing alot of good, it wasn't about MC, I don't gain any MC benefits from being DST.

I try to make the games as often as I am able to, alot of it depends on how I am feeling when I get off work lately or if I have something going on either game related or not.

The main reason why I haven't shown up for the past few months is because honestly I didn't feel welcome when I showed up and honestly that hurt my feelings alot when I feel unwelcomed by my friends whom i think as an extended family, so instead of having to feel that I decide not to go. Especially so with my last visit where people left the requiem game or just didn't show up when myself, corissa, tim and sandra, and chris showed up.

Well look at the IC and OOC incidents?

When you guys departed to SF, you basically gutted the entire power structure of one covenant and over the ensuing months continued to show up and dominate the scene when you did as if you were still the big-dogs on campus when you still left to go play in greener pastures.

I'm happy you guys found success in the Domain of the Myst. But you can't expect us to totally forgive the idea that it was done because our game wasn't good enough to help fix.

Just because I don't participate in the Cam doesn't mean I don't have the right to defend it. I made my stance perfectly clear, in that I wasn't having fun. That doesn't mean I said "You know what, I'm not having fun, let's kill this game and do something else." I withdrew, and Roo and Brian have talked to me at length about things to do to get me back.

If you're not having fun, do something else, but don't advocate for something that's going to take something away from everyone. I didn't, and won't.

Besides, my reason for withdrawing from Requiem has nothing to do with the Cam, and you know that. I wasn't having fun, not because of the Cam, but because I think the rules systems for LARP Requiem are a big steaming pile. We have had this discussion.
