Torchwood...tell me why you love it

Ok, so I just finished the first season of Torchwood. I didn't love it the way I hoped or expected. The final two eps were the only ones that caught my attention at all. Really, the acting felt mediocre, the characters were not particularly sympathetic, some of the storylines were incomprehensible, and even for sci-fi it just all felt too far-

oh noes!! hmm, since i loved tw pretty much from the first ep on, i might not be of much help here. i just really like the characters and the stories. also, the jack/ianto doesn't hurt ;)

i'd say the second season is even better than the first, not simply "much better."

you have seen both buffy and angel, right?

Ah, yes. I've been hearing much about the Jack/Ianto.

I have seen bits of Buffy, and I watched the first couple of seasons of Angel pretty religiously when it was on tv. I'll have to contemplate them.

Oh dear! I really like Torchwood because of the complexity of the storylines. Have you watched Dr. Who? Since TW is a spinoff. maybe it makes more sense to me because I am Who fan. Yes, season two is better than the first.

Have you seen Heroes?

I have heard that the storylines get better in S2, so I'll probably continue. I haven't seen Dr. Who, I've been waffling, but I'll probably add it.

Heroes is a good suggestion, I only watched the first few eps, but I remember liking it muchly.

I'm with CJ - I liked TW from the beginning, but then, I'm a huge sci-fi geek :D I never was able to really warm up to Gwen, but other than that, I liked most of the characters. And like most television series that I've watched, the second season was much better, if only because the actors and writers have finally settled into it properly.

As for new stuff, I'm in the middle of watching Carnivale with the boy. We're most of the way through season one, and while it's bizarre (as most HBO shows tend to be), I really like it. Also, have you seen Firefly (and Serenity)? Joss Whedon is a god of dialogue :D

I think I'll probably add Carnivale, the premise intrigues me muchly. Firefly is a total win, loved it through and through. Joss is a god!

Season Two is much more interesting and better written. I really enjoy the exploration of the characters' moral conflicts, and Jack/Ianto is just plain hot.

I found all the Season 2 episodes on YouTube with a little searching (the links I used are now down, alas). Sidereel.com has other links and stays current. I think you should give TW another try! :)

I think I probably will, everyone seems so sure that I'll like S2 more than S1. Maybe I'll go looking, but I hate watching shows/movies on my computer, it's just too uncomfortable.

If you can do downloads, you don't have to search - I have them all uploaded. And Doctor Who as well.

It's just fun. Some of it - did you see the DW eps that Jack was in? Also ep 2 of season 2 of DW explains how Torchwood came about. And you should probably watch the last two episodes of season 2 as well. Heh. Really, you should just watch Doctor Who period! AND season 2 of Torchwood! Season 2 is definitely much better!!

Hmmm...tempting. I don't mind downloading, I just don't love watching on my computer, but I could probably get over that.

I've not watched any DW. I probably should have started with that instead of TW, maybe that would have helped.
