What to Do when It's Below Zero

Jan 05, 2014 18:10

My cats have the right idea. Just curl up together and take a nap.

Compton, Sam and Dancer were sound asleep when I walked into the den, but when I turned on the camera, they looked up. Compton, especially, on the left looked very suspicious.

They look so adorable when they're all asleep in a pile, but I can never sneak up on them. *sigh*

Very smart kitties. If it's any consolation, I have the same trouble photographing mine. They get up and either come toward me for treats or run away because camera = big skeery box of hell.

...camera = big skeery box of hell.

Exactly! I don't know what it is about a camera that they find so scary.

Your icon is adorable.

Feel free to steal. There's not even any attribution for it, because it's one of those things that's apparently circulated everywhere for ages.

OK thanks. I just might do that.

Very smart kitties! They look so cute cuddled up together.

I definitely want to emulate them and stay cozy inside. Right now it's blizzarding, with about a foot of snow expected, and tomorrow the sub-zero temps arrive. I'm shivering already.

I hope you stay nice and snug with the cats throughout the winter blast :)

I'm looking forward to bedtime because as soon as I head upstairs, the cats follow me. They're like having extra blankets they put out so much heat.

Yep, what you have today we'll get tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm glad we have a full larder and won't need to venture out.

Aw, your kitties are adorable. :)

It's terrible outside here, but we've mostly just snow. I hope your weather doesn't get to be as bad as predicted. *knocks wood*

Thank you. I'm looking forward to taking them to bed with me. :>)

You're in Michigan, aren't you? I have two other friends there and they just posted about how bitter cold it is...and snowy.

Weather forecasters are wrong so often that I'm hoping this will be another false alarm, but down deep, I don't think it will be.

Yes, I'm in Michigan, just north of Detroit. Actually it's been warmer here the past two days 30F - 31F for the most part, but it's going to go down to 12F tonight and then we'll be back in the deep freeze for a few days. That on top of all the snow we've had since last night, is going to make it hard to get around for a few days, too. *shivers*

I still have my fingers crossed that they are wrong for you this time. :)

Thanks. I have my fingers crossed, too.

If you are so near Detroit, are you LJ friends with peripety? She lives in Detroit.

Aww, I guess they don't know what to make of the camera. They're smart to cuddle like that, it's sure to keep them warm. We had a freeze last night, but by morning it was in the low 30's. I hope it warms up for you soon!

If the camera didn't make any noise it might be better, but now if Compton even sees me holding it, he takes off.

Gosh, you had a freeze? I guess the weather is highly unusual everywhere. We'll be OK. We have plenty of groceries and cat food and don't need to go anyway all week.

What if you gave them some cat treats after taking a pic of them.. maybe they'd associate it with something nice?

It's usually above freezing here, but it's normal to have some nights in Dec or Jan that are in the 20's or low 30's. I'm glad you're well prepared for the cold weather.

That might work with a dog, but the cats disappear and probably wouldn't associate the treat with the camera. It's better to turn on the camera a couple of rooms away so they don't hear it then just sit quietly with the camera hidden and suddenly....SNAP!
