“Here.” Myungsoo dumps the bag in front of him on the cafeteria-table.

Sungyeol feels really embarrassed about this suddenly, and hides the bag under the bench as quickly as he can, away from everybody’s eyes. But the damage is done.

“I was wondering why you came to school with two bags.” Sungjong chirps, looking at them with that hinting smile.

“You forgot your whole bag at Myungsoo’s place?” Woohyun is as bewildered. “Your whole bag? Seriously?” Sunggyu shoves his elbows into Woohyun’s chest, making him purse his lips in irritation.

Last time he might have actually wished for this to happen, but now everybody have those horrible; ‘I-know-what-you-did-last-night’ looks and this time, they’re not very far from the truth, and he feels himself getting red.

“Let’s talk about the weather.” Sungyeol decides. “It’s nice today, isn’t it?”

“We barely made it to the last train. His mom grounded him until further notice.” Myungsoo brags and Sungyeol gets angry because he shouldn’t have told Myungsoo this information before bed while they were texting in first place.

“WEATHER.” Sungyeol points at the windows. “Look at the weather.”

It doesn’t help that Myungsoo is smirking.

“He’s been like that for the past few weeks,” Hoya, kindly enough, decides to elaborate; “A few days ago, I specifically told him that we have a test, even sent him a message in the evening and he comes the next day with no recollection of the said test whatsoever. Sometimes on the way home he’s day-dreaming and walks right into a post signs.”

“I’m sure Myungsoo gave him a lot to day-dream about…” Sungjong, the second very kind person around the table, fits his words in, and Sungyeol slaps Myungsoo because he’s all smiles, rubbing his nape as if it’s a reason to be proud of himself.

He decides he’s not having a crush on Myungsoo anymore.

Only, that decision lasts seconds because while he’s eating a borrowed sandwich from Hoya (his mom said he should starve at school and come back home with new resolutions about living his life as a less forgetful and a more responsible young adult), Myungsoo is laughing at something Dongwoo said, and he has dimples on his cheeks, and Sungyeol can’t look away.

Myungsoo glances at him, and wipes some bread crumbles from his chin while explaining to Dongwoo that he’s not really into a certain genre of music, and Sungyeol feels like drowning himself in the toilet.

“Hey, there.” This guy comes up to him and gives him a friendly bump on the shoulder (although it hurts a little).

Sungyeol remembers his face from somewhere but has no idea who he is.

“Hi! It’s… you again.” Sungyeol manages, faking a smile, because he thinks it might be impolite if he just turned the other way. After all, he’s a senior.

The guy laughs. “I’m Joon. We met the other day… with Sunggyu.”

Oh, yeah… Now Sungyeol remembers. Though it’s vague. What does he want?

“Say, you’re really cute. Want to go out with me?”

Sungyeol feels like he’s not following what just happened. He blinks twice before finally uttering a; “Did you just ask me out?”

Where was he before Myungsoo? He’s far more handsome than Myungsoo, and he’s taller and leaner. And on top of it he’s a senior. Could’ve been quite a blow to Woohyun’s ego.

“Yeah.” He answers, wetting his lips before smiling.

But, he’s glad he didn’t meet him before Myungsoo.

Sure, he’s flattered. He never actually rejected anyone before. “Uh, sorry, but no… I guess?” He rubs his nape.

“Why not?” He doesn’t look fazed by the rejection.

Sungyeol furrows his eyebrows; “Look, pal. I think you already know I have a boyfriend.”

“So?”

“So I prefer to go out with my boyfriend, okay? Great we have that settled!” He closes his locker and turns to leave, but the guy blocks his way.

“Oh, please… I’m sure Myungsoo won’t mind if it’s me.”

Sungyeol glares at him. Okay, now he’s getting on his nerves. “I mind if it’s you.” He huffs, pushing him out of his way, but he catches his hand roughly, and it hurts.

“You’re such a loyal little kitten. I like that. You remind me of my boyfriend.”

“The hell.” Sungyeol jerks his hand from his grip. “Touch me again, and I’ll beat you to a pulp, asshole.”

The guy smirks (he’s not even taking him seriously), and Sungyeol just scowls, rubbing onto his hand before turning the other way and rushing to his lesson.

“A guy just literally came up to me and asked me out. In the middle of the hallway.” To; Myungsoo.

“In broad day light? He must be blind or something.” From; Myungsoo.

“You don’t care at all, do you?!!!!” To; Myungsoo.

“Of course, I do. Congratulations, Froggy! Did you get his number? This chance might not repeat itself!” From; Myungsoo.

“No, I didn’t get his number! It was weird! And scary, to be honest. So I told him not to touch me again and called him an asshole.” To; Myungsoo.

“The only thing scary here is your honesty.” From; Myungsoo.

“Say you’re jealous.” To; Myungsoo.

“Should I be? He probably got the humiliation of his life after you called him names in the hallway in front of everybody’s faces and therefore will never come closer to you within ten feet. So I have you all to myself.” From; Myungsoo.

Sungyeol purses his lips because Myungsoo is being a bastard. He looks up to make sure the teacher didn’t notice him texting.

“Say you’re jealous or I’m deducting your salary!” To; Myungsoo.

“I’m jealous. Who is he? What’s his name? I’ll go make sure his face meets the pavement.” From; Myungsoo.
“That’s better.” To; Myungsoo.

“Want to hang out in Sungjong’s place today?” From; Myungsoo.

“I’m still grounded.” To; Myungsoo.

“So we’ll come to hang out in your place?” From; Myungsoo.

“No, when I’m grounded it means I don’t get to get out, and nobody gets to get in. It’s like a prison, with my mom being the evil cookie guard.” To; Myungsoo.

“Poor boyfriend of mine… I’m sure I can get to an arrangement with your mom.”  From; Myungsoo.

They do come by in the afternoon, Myungsoo sleazes his way to his mother’s heart by bringing her a box of chocolates and tells that they’re working on a project together. (Then before bed she comes into his room and tells him she likes Myungsoo best out of his friends, and that he should visit more. He tells her that he also likes Myungsoo the best out of his friends, but she doesn’t take the hint.)

They mostly eat chips and watch television, though.

Myungsoo sneaks his hand over Sungyeol’s shoulders, and Sungyeol pretends that he doesn’t mind it, and then obsesses over it all night long.

“Hey, want to get out?” Hoya sounds tired on the phone.

“I’m grounded.” It’s Friday night, and Myungsoo is working, so Sungyeol is bored.

“When did that ever stop you?” Hoya laughs. He’s such a bad influence. “It’s just me and Woohyun… if he’ll answer his phone.”

Sungyeol missed hanging out just the three of them, and he also feels like he still owns Hoya, so agrees.

He’s been avoiding Woohyun for a week now. It’s probably time he’ll face him. Maybe Hoya will smooth the things between them.

He sneaks out of the house once his mom isn’t in the living-room.

His dad is watching TV, and he nods and him and signals him to make a run for it.

“Took you long enough.” Hoya greets in the coffee shop.

“Good Evening to you, too.” Sungyeol sits down. “Where’s Woohyun?”

“Busy.”

It’s more like; ‘with Sunggyu.’

“I didn’t have an Americano for days!” Sungyeol changes the topic and tries to sound dramatic.

They sit in the same playground that Woohyun and Sungyeol used to sneak to, and the same playground that Woohyun broke up with him.

There’s no trace of the gifts that Sungyeol threw. No teddy bear, no scattered photos and no shoe box.

It feels like an eternity passed since then, and Sungyeol muses it as he sips from his stifling hot, XL-sized Americano.

Strangely enough, it doesn’t feel awkward when he’s just with Hoya, but comfortable. He missed this. Even the awkward pauses when they have nothing to talk about. He also missed Woohyun’s greasy comments in the conversation, but that’s something he isn’t willing to admit just yet.

“I got dumped.” Hoya suddenly confessed, and Sungyeol sharply turns to him.

He never even knew Hoya liked someone.

“Well… not dumped. More like rejected… It’s not like it was mutual… or anything happened between us at all, but I… never liked someone like this before.”

“Is that why you… dragged me out to drink at that boring karaoke party?” He feels bad about mentioning the crying part, especially if Hoya didn’t remember it.

“Yeah, sorry about that.” Hoya isn’t facing him. He prefers gazing upon the lonely playground. The swings sway in the wind. “It’s just that…” He trails off.

Sungyeol moves a little closer, but doesn’t want to probe.

“You know how it always was just the three of us, and suddenly the circle kind of expended over a night. I guess it just affected each of us differently. ” He laughs. “I mean you and Woohyun having a fight - I guess I never expected it to happen in first place.”

“Is it really such a shocker?”

“Well, yeah! Before, Woohyun always had you, and you always had Woohyun and now it kind of feels like the both of you are counting on me to fill in the void.”

Sungyeol takes a double take. He never thought of it like that. Sure, he knew Woohyun longer and the both of them only befriended Hoya in junior high - but he still thought of Hoya as his best friend. But if looking at it in a different perspective, Woohyun’s relationship with Sungyeol and Hoya’s relationship with Sungyeol really differed. Woohyun knew all his weird quirks and the things that ticked him off and how many beers Sungyeol needs to drink until he starts getting tipsy. Lately, it felt like he just pushed all those obligations at Hoya at once, as if compelling him to be his best friend instead of Woohyun.

“I’m sorry I cried on you that night.” Hoya is rolling his cup between his hands.

Ah, it figures.

All this time he had thought that Woohyun was the scumbag, but in the end, Sungyeol turned out to be just as much of an asshole. He relied on Hoya all this time - who, like it or not, saved his ass from a mental disorder when Woohyun broke off with him - and in the end, when Hoya needed him the most, Sungyeol wasn’t there.

“What are you sorry about?” He yells at him. “I should be sorry for being such a shitty friend!”

Hoya turns to him, a little shocked.

“I can’t believe it! I don’t even know why you’re friends with us? The both of us are two completely self-absorbed egoists and you still put up with our shit!”

Hoya laughs a little; “Yeah, well, you’re all I got.”

“Ah,” Sungyeol tries not to tear up, but the amount of guilt he feels overwhelms him. “You just keep everything to yourself, and we got used to it. I’m such a scumbag, god.”

Hoya laughs at his reaction and calls him a girl for getting emotional. Then for another fifteen minutes tries to convince him that he’s taking his words too seriously and laughing it off.

“Tell me,” Sungyeol says after his coffee gets cold. “Tell me about the person you like.”

Hoya immediately smiles, as if it’s the most amazing thing in the world, although he was rejected; “Well, I don’t think there’s much to tell you that you don’t already know.”

Sungyeol frowns. “Oh god, just don’t tell me it’s Woohyun!” If that asshole somehow managed to  three time him, he’ll end his miserable life on spot.

He chuckles in reply. “No, no!” He sighs deeply. “It’s Dongwoo.”

It makes such perfect sense suddenly.

It’s the little stuff, little gestures that matter to Hoya so much, and he was showering Dongwoo in them. Sungyeol feels stupid, because he did notice, and did take note of it, but he never, not even once, thought highly of it.

“Remember he was sick for a week?” He snorts; “Got his address from Sunggyu. I thought it was the perfect time to make a move. He said that he was flattered, and told me he’s been in love with somebody for the longest time, and although the other party was never interested, it’s really hard to let go.”

Sungyeol frowns. “And that’s it? That’s what you call ‘rejected’?”

“Well… yeah.” Hoya eyes him weirdly. “It wasn’t awkward or anything, because he was laughing between his sneezes and coughs, and it was adorable. Only when I left… it felt like… someone pierced my heart with needles.”

It’s funny to see Hoya actually talking about something so gentle and deep with that smile on his face.

Hoya never liked anybody. Or at least, Sungyeol never knew of someone that Hoya liked. He never had a girlfriend, (although he had half of the school constantly confessing to him on the rooftop), nor was he too interested in girl-groups. He liked sports and dancing and going to clubs with friends. Seeing him with that expression is something completely new. Almost as if what Hoya feels is pure and innocent and refreshing.

“Hoya, you’re uneducated in the fields of romance!” Because Sungyeol read his fair share of Mangas, “When somebody tells you they have an unrequited love for somebody else, it’s basically like saying; ‘Convince me slowly to be yours’.” He makes sure to sound extra sexy.

“Where do you even come up with this stuff?” The other cracks up.

“I’m serious, though. It’s not like he said he doesn’t like you and wants you to stop. You should seduce him. Just don’t be obvious like Woohyun flirts with Sunggyu. That’s just sticky and disgusting.”

“Or like you flirt with Myungsoo.”

“What? I don’t flirt with Myungsoo!”

“Are you for real? Sometimes you two are giving me toothaches! It’s like watching a chic-flick on TV, with the light subtext and denial.”

Sungyeol tries not to blush and finishes his coffee. “I think… I have a crush on him.”

“And you figured it only after you’ve been visiting his house for every day of the week? And don’t tell me you were playing Scramble.”

Sungyeol brings the paper cup to his lips although it’s empty.

A secret for a secret, he decides. It’s about time he’ll tell Hoya about this anyway.

It gets quiet for a long minute, because Sungyeol isn’t sure what words to use. “I was involved with Woohyun. Until approximately two months ago. And when I say involved I mean--“

“I know what you mean. I kind of started to suspect at some point.  Since when?”

“New Years Eve.”

Hoya nods, because everything clicks together. “So… you and Myungsoo…?”

“Myungsoo is my way of taking revenge, I guess.” He sighs. “Only now it comes back biting on my ass. I wanted Woohyun to crawl back on all fours and beg me to return to him… but now I just want him to apologize for being such a dick. And Myungsoo… well, Myungsoo…“

“You like him.”

It’s not that easy to admit it out loud, but he nods. “Not like-like… just… you know.”  Butterflies find their way to his stomach when he thinks about seeing Myungsoo, or about the way his hand sneaks to his waist when they’re kissing, or about his gentle fingertips.

“It looks as if it’s like-like, Sungyeol.” Hoya teases. “It looks as if you’re running after each other in circles.”

It’s more complicated than that, since there’s the deal with the money and the contract.

Sungyeol doesn’t want to give him details, because he thinks hiring someone to be his boyfriend in order to take revenge might sound childish as hell to Hoya.

And it is childish. And really stupid.

Oh, god. How did he get himself into this mess?

So. You must be all thinking; "Joon? What does he have anything to do with Yeollie? Might as well just stuffed an OC into this! Stupid Author!"
Well, my speculation are not that baseless.
According to here and here, the two of them seemed to be very close.
(Myungsoo, get your sense together before your best friend will get abducted!)
