I think you are right but you don't have to rush it. Wait until she is around 3 and started asking about grandparents in general and then you can tell her that Bubby (Mommy's Mommy) is not alive anymore. She was a very special person and this is a picture of her. Details can wait til later or never. Focus on positives: you have the same name, you look alike, you write with the same hand like Bubby you were named after etc.
Thank you. I don't plan on rushing it, or over providing information. Or at least I hope not, as I often felt my mother in a desire to 'keep me informed' at times overshared information often.
The only thing we do today, is when we look at pictures say on the fridge we point out my mom, that she's not here, and that she loves Nechama so much.
This is sweet.... yes, your mother is a part of who you are and she's still a part of your family. My father passed away 14 years ago, and I will tell C about him someday. She already has a Papa (my step-dad) but she will still know about my real dad, because he is a big part of me and a part of her. Especially since she looked just like him when she was born. :)
