Well, hellfire. How do you import to Dreamwidth again?

There's a way to migrate your whole account over there, yes? To get the accounts to mirror? (I figure I should get the DW mirroring for the 11 months of paid LJ time I have left, anyway.) Importing icons? I am so confused about all of this. Someone, please, kindly explain it to me slowly, with small words, like you were trying to get it through to

I found the importer simple to use. If you have a lot of locked entries, you might have to recreate the access list for them carefully (but you won't expose locked content to unapproved people by importing).

As for Tumblr, you kids can get offa my lawn any day now!

I used Dreamwidth's handy-dandy importer; it imported all of my back posts & their comments, so if I ever decide to leave LJ altogether, I won't lose the conversations we had. Today I post at DW and everything I write is automatically cross-posted to lj for those who are still primarily reading on lj instead of on dw.

You can import all of your icons, provided you have a paid account over there, too. Even with all my entries, it didn't take too long to transfer them all with the importer others linked to.

Haven't really posted since I imported a few months back, so I don't know if it would make two of every entry if you do the import more than once.

I got a DW account a few years back, but I mostly use it for private, excessively emo notes to self. I could move there entirely, and I may have to... but I really don't want to. :(

You go to "organize > import content" and then import from LJ. AFAIK it currently works without problem, though it was disabled during the LJ DDOS episodes. You pick what you import, i.e. just entries, icons, comments, etc. Though of course you need enough icon slots there if you have many on LJ and such.

Then you can either crosspost, or import periodically to DW if you post on LJ- The importer remembers what you imported previously. I think you can also crosspost and then import the comments from the LJ posts later on so everything is on DW, but I'm not sure about that.
