This week is my last at work. It's strange to know that we're pretty much all leaving. Lots of people are gone already because they got jobs at the other Geisinger hospital, but there are still a lot of us who are just going to be out of a job. It sucks for the people who are staying, too, because all their friends are going to be gone ( Read more... )

Well, the godparent/sponsor thing makes sense. If the Bible says something is wrong, then the church shouldn't be expected to allow someone like that to be the sponsor or godparent. The role of a godparent or sponsor should be taken more seriously, but it hasn't been for a long time. That person is suppose to guide the child toward God, not away or be absent, and should be there as a spiritual guide if the parents aren't.
But people blur the lines of Catholicism every day.

I don't think the bible explicitly says "Mormonism is wrong."

There are lots of paths up a mountain, but only one peak. The three major world religions were founded by the same man on the same principles and believe in basically the same god.

I understand the role of a godparent and the role of a Confirmation sponsor. It's possible to be a spiritual guide without being strictly Catholic. I'm just one who thinks many of the strict rules of Catholicism are pointless and alienating, though. =)

I see where you are coming from, but I'm saying that most faiths are strict about godparents or sponsors, and you have to understand why they want it that way.
I'm not saying all these Christian faiths are wrong; there is a true Christian faith, we are just not sure which one it is.
I'm saying that if the Mormon church doesn't want someone outside their faith to sponsor one of theirs, it's because they want their children to learn the Mormon faith and not be "directed" to another faith, one that may have beliefs different than theirs (i.e. Episcopalians are OK with homosexuality, unlike Mormons, Catholics and a large handful of other Christian faiths.)
