Of course, that all changed when the run-in-the-mills became the aforementioned creatures.
"WOAH!" Tommy yelped, doing a series of backflips to evade one of their stingers. "...this wasn't part of the training. What's going on?"

Toph felt the change happen and while she couldn't see it, she knew that even the landscape had changed, along with the enemies. She didn't waste another second and slammed her rock covered fist (it helped to have earth she could move on her person at all times) into one of the creatures. "Beats me. Best guess is someone or something got into the system and we've got a bug." Striking the creature revealed that it's shape was large and that it was very bug like as well. Toph snorted, "No pun intended."

Not that she was letting that stop her. She spun about and slammed her foot into a broodling, slamming it down into the sand. Its exoskeleton blistered and cracked around the point of impact as she released a strong dose of Ripple energy into it. "I should hope not," she commented. "We have enough things trying to kill us without puns of that calibre."

As he approached the common room, however, he heard the muted noises of scuffling. He inched over to the doorway, and carefully peered around the corner.
And froze.
Twelve men in black armor with weapons had several people bound and gagged on the floor of the room. They were looking around, and seemed to be preparing to head down the hallways toward the rest of the dormitories.
Rhys flipped himself back, pressed against the outside wall. What was he going to do? He certainly couldn't fight, but if he tried to flee, they might hear him. Being new, he also had no idea how to find help...

She had heard a lot of commotion, noises one didn't hear at two in the morning. Fred stood from her seat on the stairs and left her notebook behind. Something was happening above her. She could hear way more people than she should be.

Her craving for sweets now sated, Nakuru was sneaking past the steps to the observation tower when she heard a suspicious amount of ruckus from above. When she looked up, she caught a glimpse of a girl she vaguely recognized as another student disappearing up the stairs. "What is this? Is the Curfew Club having a meeting that I didn't know about?" Nakuru wondered as she followed after the other girl. If it was a party, how could she possibly resist?

Now, Shikamaru was up there for some late night stargazing. Well, cloudgazing, but stars were nice too. Added something to see the clouds by. He was kinda staring at his grading work for the week and avoiding it. He needed a TA, or better, a proper teacher who he could be TA to so he could ignore the work given to him as not his job.
Of course, when he heard people coming he hid, hoping it was just some of his classmates looking to make out in the dead of winter. He was really hoping for that, he could just casually leave and nobody would care. But no, it had to be guys with weapons building something. Tch... what to do here.

Please note there will be two separate sub threads here, one for the mens room, and one for the ladies room

She was just stepping out of the shower, wearing a robe and wrapping a towel around her hair, when she tensed up. Karrin was hyper aware of her surroundings and that tingling feeling at the back of her neck told her something bad was about to go down.
A split second later the door burst open and several men started coming in to the locker room. The girl's locker room.

And then the group of men in helmets came in. Perfect timing. If it weren't for the fact that this was the girl's locker room and all. Still, Xion just quickly pulled up her hood and summoned a sword to her hand, watching with narrow eyes. Good thing she hadn't taken a shower yet, right?

She didn't quite have the presence of mind to figure out that this was some kind of attack. Her mind was still busy processing men bursting into the girl's locker room. She gave a yelp or surprise and outrage, and her hands flew to cover herself.

They also seem more aggressive than usual, as if someone were controlling them, or perhaps they just smell the blood of their fallen kin.

Shit. Okay, let's get these bears off the grounds, guys.

Don't need to tell me twice.
