Toris spent most of his time in the library, and today was no exception. He flipped through his textbook, sitting in a corner of the library amidst various textbooks and a few language books he'd finished with--he'd never had access to such things before, but now that he'd found himself with access to them, it had become a bit of a habit to pick up a few new languages each time he went to the library. Too many at once, though, made his head hurt, so he only read a couple a week.
Absorbed in his studying, the cursing and then slamming book startled him, and his own book slipped from the table, landing rather loudly on the ground.
"A-ah, sorry," he replied, automatically speaking German, as it was the last language he'd heard.
His voice clipped back more, exposing nervousness as the other emotions drained out of it. He'd played this game before. He didn't like it. "That would depend on how they used it."
He let a small smirk grace his face. He might see about keeping this one around for awhile. "Is there a way to use it properly? Either way they can control every little thing you do."
The nervousness drained from his voice, too, leaving just a dull sense of inevitability in the tone, although the nervousness simply churned around inside, and he felt a stomachache coming on.
He only responded as far as he was asked; he didn't want to give the other boy anything extra to go on. "Neither is a situation I'd want to be in."
Because it was a situation he'd been in--the first, at least. The second was attempted. To have someone really do that was more terrifying than any physical torture he'd suffered.
"Hmm...No I don't suppose it would be. I can be a terrifying thought. Having someone who could control something about you." Kyouya had lived with that for most of his life, he still had nightmares about it. Maybe that was why he had turned out like he did.
"Mmhmm," Toris said, a vague sort of agreement that he hoped didn't let on too much how uncomfortable he was feeling right now. He was pushing back the memories that tugged at the corners of his mind, but wasn't sure he wanted to stay in the present, either.
He couldn't help it anymore, he let himself relax back into his chair. "However you don't need to worry about me doing that." He felt an odd feeling of respect for Toris. He hadn't run...and hadn't needed a new pair of pants.
"I'm sure if you say so you mean it," Toris replied, and if there was a passive-aggressive sort of sarcasm to it, it was buried beneath the numbness that had overtaken him.
He nodded, making note of the smile but not trusting it, either. It wouldn't be the first time someone had given him that sort of smile and then hurt him, if it happened.
"Even if you've known someone for some time, it's still not always wise to trust them."
Absorbed in his studying, the cursing and then slamming book startled him, and his own book slipped from the table, landing rather loudly on the ground.

"I suppose, if they wanted to."

"Indeed. Tell me...What would scare you more. Someone who could control your body...or someone who could control your thoughts?"

Nothing about his mind in that sentence; Toris knew how words were played. He knew people lied, too. There was no trust in his voice.
