i think that the whole idea of "he sold out, he's a "selfish sellout prick"" is more or less just as bad as all the ignorance from kids that you're talking about. changing your opinion or deciding that something that was once important to you isn't important to him anymore doesn't mean he's a bad person, he just changed ( presumably, since i don't know him and think most precious blood suck dick ). hardcore as a general entity is scared shitless of change which is probably one of the reasons that the scene goes "months and years without something new". everything new gets rejected, and bands or people who change are crucified for it. i understand how strongly you feel about veganism and even though i don't relate, i respect it, but i don't think that saying something like that about him is going to get you anywhere in your own development as a person.

i can see what you're saying for sure, but i feel that it is selfish not to be vegan in a world where so many animals are totured and slaughtered needlessly, when a vegan diet is not only sparing the lives of innocent animals, but also helping to preserve the environment, and your own personal health. i think that most people are uneducated about what they're really eating and the consequences it has, so i don't blame them, i don't hate, etc. but for someone who was in ONE KING DOWN and wrote lyrics like, "killing without necessity, this ignorance enraging me" and "the killers should be killed" to go back on his feelings about veganism is a CHANGE, sure, but not one i can ever respect. and i think i'm pretty justified in feeling that way.

Agh, I so wish I could have gone. I wanted to, but I couldn't get Monday off work. :(

One of the guys in Love Is Red used to live with my friend back in Detroit and I'd always give him my leftover vegan food because he was always broke, so we are sort of in touch now. He told me the other day that they were playing a Trial cover and I couldn't believe I was going to miss it. I haven't seen Trial in sooo long, it seems, but I still wear my shirt all the time. Haha.

I really wanted to see Damnation, too! Ack... I miss enjoying hardcore as much as I used to. Philly's taken it all out of me with everyone's shitty attitudes. I need to see some good shows! I'm too jealous! :)

yeah it was a seriously good time. trial is probably my favorite band of all time, one of them anyway, so i was reallllllly stoked that they played that.

dammit, let's hang out sometime!

That rules. We should hang out for sure! I'm tied up until my doggie gets better (he's having surgery this Friday), but I'm usually doing nothing at all on most weekends. :)

oh todd. i mean, i don't know if rob was vegan when he wrote bloodlust revenge or not. it's pretty silly if he wasn't. but, a vegan sellout is a vegan sellout, and yes the choice isn't right for everyone (like people in countries where veganism isn't possible/sustainable), but it's right for you, me, and surely rob king down if he could get over his selfish craving for cheese and eggs at the expense of the prolonged torture and eventually murder of another creature ( ... )

So does that mean that if I gave up veganism or the edge that you would lose respect for me and talk like that about me?

did you even read what i wrote? toddddddddddddd, listen to me. you are not a spokesperson for veganism, and haven't dedicated a portion of your life to militantly educating people about vegan lifestyles. if you sold out i'd lose a lot of respect, but we'd still be friends. rob and i don't know eachother, and he was a main figure in the vegan movement within hardcore. perhaps you just can't grasp what i'm saying, but there's really no other ways for me to put this.

holy shit thats a long entry. i wish i could have been there...its been a long time since ive seen any hint of unity in the scene. i know what you mean about it being hard to stay involved with all the stupidity.

and im jealous cuz ive never seen bane and i LOVE them. ive missed them every time theyve played around here.

and last im kinda shocked that you went from admiring rob king down to hating him...that sees a little rash and doesnt seem like something youd do.

yeah, i think every bane show is pretty much amazing. are they coming to rva in their next tour? if so, maybe i'll schedual a visit then...

i don't think it's a rash at all. check out some of the things i wrote above here (i don't want to re-write) about why i feel the way i do and you'll see that i'm well thought out and pretty reasonable. when i admire someone for a conviction they hold and they no longer hold it, why would i have any respect for them?
