Why Pole?

Apr 12, 2009 17:21

I've gotten some mixed reactions to the fact that I'm taking pole dancing at Pilates Plus. You know me, I'm not one to hide my hobbies, especially one I'm enjoying. I've gotten those goofy leers, 'ooo... pole dancing, private showing, haha', but thankfully those have been very few. I've gotten some double takes. I've mostly gotten... not outright ( Read more... )

Thanks!

Yeah... I've already had a pole fall on me. Rare, so of course *I* pulled it off! Heh...

Thanks hon.

Oh MAN, pole REALLY works your arms and abs, like woah.

Dancers' bodies are HOT. Man... I'm just sayin'...

I like burlesque. I might be interested in trying that too, but not as much in a workout capacity ;). That is all like, old school Rocky-esque to me, but that's my experiences. Good ones :).

There is 110% nothing wrong with what you're doing. In fact, I'm jealous...I want to take pole! Judging from the comments you have been getting prior to posting, you're clearly talking to some immature boys. Girls tend to get it and understand that it's empowering/fun. We actually might take a class for a friend's upcoming bachelorette. Where are you taking?

Well... and it's like, "how's your whore class" or "stripper class" or whatever started to kinda get to me. I guess it shouldn't and I shouldn't care... but I guess I do. One person was like "it is what it is", and I couldn't argue against them, they weren't listening and I guess it kinda hurt a little.

*nods* It IS empowering. It's a little sexy, but it's more like playful fun and we do do a little sultry steps and routines but it's all about the goofy fun and the workout. Oh that's cool! I hope you guys enjoy it :).

I'm taking at Pilates Plus, same place I belly dance :).

My one and only contact with a pole was in a club in Seattle, where one of the guys there who could do *AMAZING* things tried to teach me a few tricks.

It didn't go well. *rofl*

I know, though, you just have to stick with whatever makes you feel good and happy and excited to be doing it! I'd love to take a bunch of classes but sadly $$$ is always an issue, and the fact that I absolutely HATE driving and traffic and all...
but I still get the weird looks.

Hell, when we go to the local globo-gym I get weird looks as it is, being a slight bit oversized, hanging out with the free weights, trying cleans and bench press... as a *girl*.
Seriously. OMG-teh-ceiling-is-falling!

*eyeroll* :D

They are HARD, and they take a lot of time to learn! I have like 11 classes under my belt and I still only do the "easy" spins well.

$$ is always an issue. Belly and pole are one of the few things I'm still putting on my cc's. *sigh* It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make though, you know?

*laughs* My belly dance teacher Neta is also a certified personal instructor and a weight trainer. She could kick the weird looks right off all their faces ;). But I hear you. She and you are a "rare" female breed ;).

First off I must say "Pole dancing, snicker-snicker, inappropriate sexist comment here." As a guy I am required by the by-laws to say that or I lose my man card.

With that out of the way, who cares what other people think. You have found a fun way to exercise that you enjoy. That is awesome. I am still trying to find my thing, the sitting around drinking beer all day and doing nothing plan isn't working. As long as you are having fun, then that is the most important thing. Your are getting a workout. If you learn a new sort-of skill along the way then bonus.

Don't let the ney-sayers and other fools bring you down. Keep up the work and you will be a better person for it.

Exactly what he said. ...i should write my own stuff instead of cut/pasting from the "guys manual to being a guy" I guess. :)

I know I shouldn't care, I just value some peoples' opinions I guess. Silly me ;).

Aww, the sitting-and-beer regiment's failing you? Suckage ;).

I am having fun. And in the unlikely event I do lose my job, you're right, I'll have a new skill set to fall back on, hehe.

Thanks hon. And thank you for the Easter text. I was working so I didn't get to reply :P.
