Ah, well...

As long time readers know, we have lost three cats since April.
Kitty had FelV when we rescued him from the streets. He was happy and well for two years but then, as is the way of FelV, became deathly ill and despite trying to save him, he died in my arms.
Annie we adopted at age 13 because she had diabetes and her family didn't want her any more ( Read more... )

That lucky kitty will live out the rest of its days knowing it was always loved (since he is probably coming from a loving home, as well). Yes, there will be an adjustment, but they are adaptable creatures. I hope- for your sake- that he is a "young" 14, and healthy, so that you can spend a long time together before you say goodbye. But however long it is, it's longer than the sentence imposed on him now.

You're also allowing that poor 90-yr old woman the peace of mind that comes from not worrying about her furbaby. What a double gift you are granting.

You notice I am talking in the present tense as tho' this were already a done deal. That's 'cuz I know you and your heart, and I know this little one has already been adopted in your mind. :)

As always, my friend, you are doing a good thing.

Thanks, Karen! Yes, I am picking him up this afternoon. Sadly, by the time I can get him/her s/he will be a stressed out MESS. They are "cleaning" the old gal's house and he will be caged until I can get there. I promised my sister I would go to the kitty cardiologist with her this morning so won't be able to get New/Old Kitty till later.
OY!

Thanks. I wish she would ease up on the steady stream she keeps directing to my door, though.

She needs to send them with the winning Mega Millions Numbers!
I average 100 bucks a week at the pet supply and about 6K per year at the vet.

i can see why you of all people would be nervous about this...if you take this kitty, you are doing a wonderful thing...however you have been selfless for a long time, so...
anyway i wish you the best with this!

I would so take an older cat! Kittens are cute but they stress me out. I like the older, sedate kitties.

We often take adults. We have adopted ones that were 11 & 13 in the past.

Exactly! And since I have a two year old human child, I don't think I could cope with a kitten or puppy; that'd be way too much energy in one place. :D

You just KNOW you are doing the right thing. And make that THREE people...tee hee.......i can remember my husband standing at the stove cooking dinner when i came home with Tequila (aka Tiki) about 5 years ago...he was so mad that I brought ANOTHER one home...I had fished her out of the dumpster at work at the banquet hall in the rain, in Feb. in my high heels and stockings lol...i changed my clothes and whisked her to the vet for a quick SNAP test to see if she had FELV/FIV before i put her with the herd...she was fine....by 8 that night my husband was sound asleep on the couch...with tiki sleeping on his chest....its ALWAYS initially stressful, but a few weeks from now you will look at kitty sound asleep on the chair (especially at 14) and know you did a reallllly good thing. See..sometimes karma is cool
