Recently I have been watching The Camomile Lawn on my iPod. I found the complete miniseries on iTunes for four quid, it's amazing. Does anyone else remember this or is it only me? I was around 14 or 15 when it was on TV, but although I remember it (on account of Jennifer Ehle spending most of every episode naked) I don't think I was really ( Read more... )

I love spotting English actors in these things, you get the impression that until about 1998 there were only thirty actors in Britain and they all got shared around every programme getting made.

Hell, I still get that impression today.

Yeah! I like to imagine them all living in a big house somewhere in Devon, smoking pipes and passing round scripts.

See, I always imagined an oak-paneled club in the West End with whoever was preparing for their next butler role doing the serving that week.

I haven't seen the TV version but I love Mary Wesley and have read all her books. So really I do need to get my hands on that TV version.

DO IT.

I haven't read her. Although she's on my list of People Who Didn't Publish Anything Till They Were In Their Seventies, which I think of sometimes to numb the pressure.

Yes, that comforts me too. All of her books are great reads.

Watching the camomile lawn was the first time I heard about what sex actually was. I think I must have been very young as I watched it with the baby-sitter, I was probably only six or something. I didn't realise it was Jennifer Ehle, I must watch it again. Did you know that the man who played Rochester recently is the grandson of that old lady actress, I've forgotten her name but she's very famous for lots of things and the only one I can think of is McGonnagal.
I've been watching early episodes of Sharpe recently and that is a great british-actor-spotting fest. Highlights so far include Liz Hurley, Pete Postlethwaite and Daniel Craig.

How inappropriate of your babysitter! Excellent.
I watched all the Sharpes again last year when I was living in Tunbridge Wells, and yeah they are full of random Before They Were Famous people
