Recently I have been watching The Camomile Lawn on my iPod. I found the complete miniseries on iTunes for four quid, it's amazing. Does anyone else remember this or is it only me? I was around 14 or 15 when it was on TV, but although I remember it (on account of Jennifer Ehle spending most of every episode naked) I don't think I was really paying attention because I don't remember any of the story at all. It's fantastic! I miss this kind of English show! And Rebecca Hall is in it, aged about 10 and looking exactly the same as she does now. Plus the guy who played Mr Rochester in the recent BBC Jane Eyre. I love spotting English actors in these things, you get the impression that until about 1998 there were only thirty actors in Britain and they all got shared around every programme getting made. Anyway ALL OF YOU need to download this series and watch it so that I have someone to talk to about it all.
Don't mention the apartments.
My street - Rue de la Huchette - crops up in yet another book I'm reading, despite the fact that it's tiny it seems to be involved in every literary treatment of this city I come across (perhaps because it is so very old, it's never anachronistic). VII-4 of Hugo's Notre Dame de Paris:
Il descendit la rue de la Harpe [where I go for my internet!] vers la Cité.
How little has changed...the street is still full of rotisseries and Italians.
