This totally disgusting, mystery... thing.

Okay...  On the morning of Tuesday, October 5th, I discovered two vile, disgusting objects on the grass in my neighborhood.  My initial thought was that they were animal in origin.  I thought they looked like some sort of organ or even eyeballs (LOL... I know, I know).  I posted pics in my journal and my friends suggested it was from some sort of ( Read more... )

fungus, slime, mushroom

It's official, I'm getting incredibly jaded. I was eating dinner and didn't even blink or pause my bites when I saw the pics, just leaned in going "Hmm.... *munch munch munch*"

That being said, I have NO idea what it is. I've never heard of SLIMY fungi, at least to that degree!

Hah, I was eating dinner too when I clicked the cut and it didn't phase me one bit. Thank you, internet!

Good thing--being phased would probably make interacting with your dinner difficult.

Didn't faze you, either. ;)

A friend of mine had suggested that so I looked it up, but apparently, this is what a puffball looks like on the inside:

Ooh I was just about to reject this lol, but with this message:
Ah, sorry identify-this type posts aren't really allowed in the comm, but I can point you in the right direction. I think it's definitely some kind of fungus, it's the season for them after all. It may be a species of puffball? Have a google around for species native to your area, or you can send the photos to local government wild/plantlife dudes, there'll be a website with contact details :D

Yeah, I noticed the rule about "identify this" posts, but I thought it was still plenty WTF-worthy even without anyone knowing what it is.

Oh yeah, I googled with all my might, but couldn't find anything (saw lots of pictures of gross toenails, though!). I thought of trying to find a website to send them to, but I figured I'd try this community that I'm already a member of first. Thank you for approving it! :)
