Apologists

I recently saw the Clone Wars movie and was fairly non-plussed. I wasn't dissapointed so much, just very very indifferent. I realised half way through that it's not a film for me. It's a kids film. It's probably a very good kid's film, I wouldn't know. I'm not a kid. I'm going to watch the series because it'll cost me nothing to do so, but I'm not ( Read more... )

How did you find the D&D4 rules? I bought the box set, but I wasn't that taken by them - seem very prescriptive and entirely combat orientated. But I've not actually tried playing a game with them yet, so I could be entirely wrong.

The way I would describe the campaign we just played is this: It's a highly complex, extremely entertaining board game. That may be the fault of the GM - who's not big on 'doing the voices' - and is definately largely the fault of the adventure which is nothing more than a string of combats.
To be honest, when we weren't focussing on the miniatures and lining up our L337 pow3rz for maximum damage, I sensed attention wandering around the table (including myself), which makes me wonder wether they'll really enjoy the Star Wars game unless I turn it into a board game too.

As for the rules, I LOVE them. But then I think they are ideally suited to the style of game we played.

Actually, I'd already started thinking of them as more of a board game than an RPG. For that style of play, they look pretty darn good. But my (semi) regular group tends to go more for the freeform, and D&D4 doesn't really do anything for that style of play.

Honestly, this whole D&D4 thing is slower than even I anticipated.
Still, this is probably because your party was missing the crucial pit-falling power of a meat shield..uh..I mean Dwarven Hero ;)

Man! Could've done with ol' Anklebiter! The final bad guy was a nightmare. We finally killed him by bull-rushing him into a Stargate full of Demon!
