Newbie dungeon advice, please?

Feb 01, 2012 22:01

I'm planning on doing my first ever dungeon tomorrow. I'm taking my Auction House alt to Deadmines, because my mains are all at least level 40 and (as people here have suggested) it'd be simpler to start on a lower-level toon. This is a big, scary thing to me and I really want to make sure I mess up as little as possible, so if you can offer me ( Read more... )

It's just a normal dungeon at low levels. Everything will die fast and quick even if you have incredibly bad players with you. Unless someone other than the tank is intentionally pulling you shouldn't have a hard go of it. You're a hunter so you can kill everything super fast on your own anyway.

Just relax and have fun.

I've gone into Deadmines/Ragefire chasm in WHITE gear as a healer and did just peachy. You'll be fine! If you have a friend with an alt around the same level take that person with you and have a good laugh with them.

I like to use the dog for PvP (that lock jaw ability is perfect for those pesky ret pallies). A pet like a wolf or cat will buff your whole group.

Ah, yeah, I suggest a cat or wolf, or better yet, both so that you can switch depending on group makeup. Honestly, it's not important to have ~all the buffs~ especially at lollevel15, but after level 20 or so it's something you can start thinking about!

Cat: Buffs strength and agility, it's the same buff as a warrior's BATTLE SHOUT, a shaman's STRENGTH OF EARTH totem, and a death knight's HORN OF WINTER buff. So usually if I have a warrior/shaman/DK in the group I use a wolf.

Wolf: Buffs crit chance, and I've been in the RAID FINDER where among 25 folks we didn't have that crit buff. I guess feral druids, elemental shaman, fury warriors, and subtlety rogues all end up eventually getting the 5% crit buff.

That said, on my capped hunters I like to also carry around a tallstrider or bird or something for the attack speed slow (tallstrider) and the disarm (bird).

The fact that you are even this worried about dungeons shows that you're more prepared than just about anyone else running dungeons at that level ( ... )

I wish more people new to dungeons would do that much preparedness/research in advance! But really, you're over-thinking it. Queue up, don't pull things for the tank, stay with the group and have fun! Lowbie instances can be a really great time and everyone is learning their class/role. There's a good chance someone in the dungeon has a max level character of every class represented, and there may be some advice to receive (normally they're good about asking or waiting to be asked and not just dolling it out). Generally I've found low level dungeons very pleasant.

Having enchants is a HUGE bonus at any level, even without BoA gear. Your stats are on target (yay Agi!) and you don't have any odd-ball strength or int pieces (which is more common than you would hope). Need what you need, don't worry about buff food or potions (it's nice, but nobody else will have it), and just have fun. RFC takes about 15 minutes, Deadmines and SFK about 25-30, WC is a maze and can take longer if someone doesn't know the way, but they're all reasonable.
