Newbie dungeon advice, please?

Feb 01, 2012 22:01

I'm planning on doing my first ever dungeon tomorrow. I'm taking my Auction House alt to Deadmines, because my mains are all at least level 40 and (as people here have suggested) it'd be simpler to start on a lower-level toon. This is a big, scary thing to me and I really want to make sure I mess up as little as possible, so if you can offer me ( Read more... )

1 - You're fine, people start queueing at 15, you probably won't be the only person at 15 in there ( ... )

Thanks for the advice and reassurance! I'll check out the Wowpedia page - can't believe I'd forgotten about that.

I'm specifically going for Deadmines, because I've soloed it on a couple of my higher-level characters so I at least have some idea what to expect. I'll do random dungeons when I feel more comfortable. Baby steps :) Thanks for the thought, though.

No problem at all, really :) I live in the RDF these days (so many druid healers and bb pally tanks >.>) so I saw a topic I could answer!

Good luck with it all!

OOOH You're EU! If you want a friendly face to run with at any point let me know, I can always roll up an alt (ignore the sound of my husband yelling "ANOTHER alt?!") to come with :)

At your level, dungeons are going to be relatively easy. The best you can do is read up on fights for the dungeons you might get thrown into based upon level bracket - at least so you've some idea where to go. There isn't a lot of bad to avoid at low level dungeons, and most bosses will go down before you can blink (those with heirlooms/twinks will outgear the dungeons by a lot ( ... )

1. At lvl 15 most people are going to be either geared in BoAs or starter gear. You're fine.
2. I usually roll need without saying anything, unless it is for my offspec. THEN I ask my group if I can roll.
3. Don't worry about healing. That's the healers job. :)
4. Have you tried a training dummy in the capital cities? They may be too high for you but they won't die. :D
5. I'd say maybe about 2-5 seconds?
6. Usually if you let them know straight away, you should be fine. If you don't tell them and you wipe, it causes unhappy times for everyone.
7. It's been a while since I actually ran Deadmines without being carried, so I can't tell you.

Just have fun and don't sweat it. It's when you're in higher level dungeons you should be totally worried.

Thanks for the advice and reassurance! I'm trying not to worry too much, but people are scary :) It probably won't be anything like as bad as I'm expecting.

I've tried the training dummies, but they don't seem to have threat at all, sadly.

I don't want to rain on your parade but you are way over thinking this dungeon. At that level some food (does not need to be buff food), armor that isn't grey, and an idea how to play your class is all you really need. A tabard to work on gaining city rep or guild rep is a nice plus.

Dungeons just aren't that hard anymore. Blizz has really put the game on easy mode until you get to the high level dungeons. And honestly if you are expecting the rest of your group to be outfitted like you with all the raid prep you are going to be sadly disappointed. Just remember to let the tank pull and keep growl turned off. Tanks love to complain about growl (it will interfere with a weaker tanks ability to hold agro) so it's just easier to turn it off.

1) Lowbie dungeons are normally pretty lax and faceroll. You're very very over prepared!

2) Need if you need it, no need (lolpun) to ask! Only ask if it's for an offspec or for looks.

3) Trust me, bandages won't fix a squishy tank or poor healer. Don't worry about helping the healing other than keeping yourself out of bad stuff! Bandages heal for very little and are nice for between pulls or soloing on yourself.

4-5) Normally just give your tank a few seconds and you should be fine. You can target the tank and go /f or /assist to attack the target the tank is targeting! Don't attack while the tank is still gathering mobs up.

6) They probably won't kick you, but I would not mention you're new unless you need advice on a specific boss or part of the dungeon. People can be very nasty, but lowbie dungeons are for new players! There will be a lot of newbies there!

7) Half an hour I guess? At low levels it goes by pretty fast.

Relax, low level dungeons are generally pretty easy. :)
