Combat Rogue Help!

Well, I've been working on getting my combat rogue up to snuff. And...well...no matter what I do, I can't seem to break 6-7k dps in heroics. I'm thinking it might just be a gearing issue, since I know I'm not at hit cap, and for lack of better, I have on PvP boots and shoulders, but and looking to replace them ASAP. Also, I have the mats for the ( Read more... )

yeah, I've been keeping slice'n'dice up, sinister strike to 4 combo points, if it doesn't proc to the fifth, use revealing strike to get the fifth, if it procs to the fifth, hit rupture/evicerate (I read evi is better if there's no "bleed" effects on the boss, so if there's not feral druid, arms warrior, sub rogue, or hunter pets, using evi instead of rupture is a DPS gain).

At my rogue's current level of gear, I find that I get 5x, S&D, 4x + RS or 5x rupture, 4x + RS or 5x to eviscerate,4x + RS or 5x to rupture again, then it's time to renew my S&D.

I hadnt heard about the bleed effect thing, I'll have to read up. I have heard something said about a different poison combo, though. I haven't tested it yet... Crippling poison over wound poison, I think??? I'll have to ask my friend again so I can test and see how it comes out.

Oh God, I thought I was the only one cringing at "rouge" and wondering just what a combat makeup would be!

As a quick disclaimer, my rogue is my alt so some of what I'm saying may be out of date.

First off, you're reforging heavily for expertise and hit well past the break points for those two stats. The expertise cap for us night elves is 26 (781 rating). After that it only affects the target's chance to parry, which you should be negating anyway by standing behind them.

Meanwhile there are three tiers of hit-worthiness: hit to yellow cap (which is 241 rating with 3/3 in Precision), hit to poison/spell cap (1127 rating) and then hit to white cap (2523 rating). Hit is supreme until you hit the yellow cap, then it falls slightly behind haste until you reach the poison cap, when it becomes weaker than everything 'cept crit. Poison cap is not as important to combat as assassination because we mostly deal in physical damage. That gives you a stat priority something like this ( ... )

Midnight Steel got you well covered on the stat priorities and gemming, so I'll put in that the other problem I see is in your main hand weapon. That is a dagger for the Assassination spec, it is too fast for combat. You need a 2.6 speed main hand, sword, mace, axe, it doesn't matter which ( ... )

Get a good MH. You will be amazed at the difference. You want 2.8 weapon speed if possible - SS mechanics make slow weapons desirable because they do more damage, and the time isn't a factor because SS is an instant.

Heroic Deadmines has something like three different swords that would work for you.

Here's your toon at the Shadowcraft site: Lunamuerte. Go ahead and press the "auto-reforge option on the bottom left of the screen. (You may have to scroll down to see it.) Follow its suggestions; you won't regret it.
