Combat Rogue Help!

Well, I've been working on getting my combat rogue up to snuff. And...well...no matter what I do, I can't seem to break 6-7k dps in heroics. I'm thinking it might just be a gearing issue, since I know I'm not at hit cap, and for lack of better, I have on PvP boots and shoulders, but and looking to replace them ASAP. Also, I have the mats for the ( Read more... )

Midnight Steel got you well covered on the stat priorities and gemming, so I'll put in that the other problem I see is in your main hand weapon. That is a dagger for the Assassination spec, it is too fast for combat. You need a 2.6 speed main hand, sword, mace, axe, it doesn't matter which.

A raiding rogue in my guild actually tried the weapon speed combo you have in a combat spec. As soon as I could get my hands on them (my rogue is also an alt), I tested and found it cost me at least 500 dps to do that over the slow main hand. When I got him to test, well, he didnt tell me numbers, but apparently his results were even more pronounced then mine.

I also use Shadowcraft http://shadowcraft.mmo-mumble.com/ to help me with reforging choices. and yes, it may take you up to slightly under 26 expertise, that's fine, don't sweat it. But moving all that extra expertise into other useful stats should help you quite a bit.

Offhand, I'll recommend doing H-Dead Mines to get the Cruel Barb for your main hand, it's the best blue out there for a combat rogue. As Leita said, your OH will work fine at its speed. Dead Mines has lots of good gear drops for rogues. Halls of Origination has the thrown weapon you want, just ask the group to do the boss you need, it's one of the last four, I cant remember which, though, but you can find it by using the upgrade feature on WoWheroes.

Otherwise, if you've got your rotation solid, you'll be doing fine.
