Sometimes, doing the right thing just stings.

The other day, our guild took down Cho'Gall. We had been working on him before the patch getting him to about 20% health before wiping (essentially, we saw the last phase, then would wipe ( Read more... )

I can feel your pain. But you're right -- it was the right thing to do.

Yeah very much the right thing to do. I've never been a huge fan of roll systems, they can result in very unfair things if there aren't some caveats in place to restrain one lucky person from just taking all the loot. Something along the lines of 'if you've won one thing you can't take another if someone else who's won nothing wants it' should be a rule with all /roll stuff. Be happy with the kill, there will be more shoulders.

That was my feeling. I won the pants because I was the only one who could use them, and it wasn't fair I'd get both just because I won the roll. I'm going to talk to my co-raid leader and we'll see about instituting a rule about 1 piece for a BIG BOSS unless no one else needs it.

And yes, there will be more shoulders. The "win" from seeing a fellow guildee happy comes around only a few times.

My guild uses a +1 loot system. If you win a roll for mainspec it is +1, next roll will be +2 and so and so forth. So if you, with 2 points, roll against someone with 0-1 points then you would not win the roll even if you rolled higher. It works for 10 mans best, imo.

This... basically you don't get a chance on another piece of main spec loot until everyone you'd be rolling against has gotten a piece. The only clarification from my own guild is that it's by raid lock out, not raid night. Lucky for me I'm only rolling against a rogue for gear (I would have to count how many I'm rolling against for capes, trinkets, neck, rings and relics.)

It will sting less when you both have 371 shoulders! Loot comes and goes but he will remember that for a long while.

And grats on the kill! Cho'gal is one of those fights that becomes significantly easier if you down him once.

Thank you! We made one minor change in moving Cho'gall during the last phase which made a HUGE difference.

There will always be more loot.
However, the chance to strengthen relationships only comes a few times.

Grats on the kill! Man, that does sting but it was the right thing to do. You're such a great person for doing it, and I respect you so much for going ahead and making that choice and sacrifice. <3

It's awesome you gave up the shoulders for someone else, especially when you took a different piece of loot off the same boss. It's a very fair thing you did and with the 4.2 nerfs hopefully you can go back and get everyone a pair of shoulders who still needs them.
