Sometimes, doing the right thing just stings.

The other day, our guild took down Cho'Gall. We had been working on him before the patch getting him to about 20% health before wiping (essentially, we saw the last phase, then would wipe).

With the nerf, this meant that we could get him down, but it still took us a bit getting our feet wet.

This time, he dropped mail pants (resto shaman), mail shoulders, and a clothy item. I was the only one who could use the pants, despite it being a side upgrade for me. Both the hunter & I rolled on the shoulders, and I won the roll.

But, here's where it stings....

The other mail wearer has a hard time after our Drama Denied incident in guild because the people in question were friends with him in RL, and he had been seriously pressured to leave our guild (even though he loves us, what we're doing, and he enjoys our raids). This was a big upgrade for him as it was for me -- we were both wearing 353 shoulders from ZA/ZGs.

I'm not having any issues healing the raid with my current gear. Of course, he's also one of our top DPSers and has no issues pulling a minimum of 15k DPS on a given raid. But, he hasn't gotten a raid drop in a while (not that he ever complained!) He's also one of our solid core raid members; he's always there helping, he lets us know if he's running late or can't make it, and you never have to worry about him not doing his research.

So, I made the executive decision as one of the raid leader (and master looter), and awarded him the loot instead. Everyone was a little shocked, but it was the right thing to IMNSHO, and nearly everyone in the raid whispered me afterwards letting me know how it was awesome I had given him the shoulders.

Even my co-raid leader thought it was the right thing to do; not to mention that it strengthens guild ties, loyalties, and relationships; I know that this particular person loves raiding with us and likes our raid leading.

Also, it made our particular DPS very happy; he couldn't stop babbling about it in gchat and hugging me.

For me, it's not all about the loot (although, it definitely a nice perk); it's about doing stuff as a guild, getting our accomplishments, and getting people upgrades so they can enjoy playing the game. Plus, with his increased DPS, it just means that I get more efficient about my healing as bosses go down faster, right?

But..looking at the stats for those shoulders....stings me. I'm not sorry that I did it...but, still, it does sting a little.
