Aren't I doing everything right?

Mar 12, 2011 07:14

I'm not a person for whom numbers are everything. When I signed up for my current guild the then GL asked my opinion on loot, and I told him I really didn't care about it except as it enabled me to do my job as a raider and be part of a raiding group. And that's still true.

Ever since Cata came around... )

After trying out all three specs at 85, my boyfriend ended up going mainspec affliction with a demonology offspec (for fights requiring more AoE damage), because he just couldn't pull the numbers as destro - so it's not just you.

Dual-spec is dirt cheap now, if you don't already have it. Put yourself together an affliction spec, play with it in a few heroics, see if you still like it and if you're happier with your performance as affliction.

My off spec is currently Demo specced for soloing. However, since I'm exalted with Dragonmaw (for a while now) and Therazane (recently,) I don't really think I need a solo spec any more, so maybe I'll just go ahead and convert that to Aff. I don't know what's what in the Aff world any more, though. (Please, no EJ threads. :\ )

I'm not up on the rotation, but you can check out his spec & glyphs here.

ETA: Succubus is his pet of choice while affliction. I know they're buffing the felhunter in 4.1, but right now, I guess she does more DPS.

Why no ej threads?

They have a really simple question and answer post for each class and they have a guide to each spec that runs through their conclusions without the maths and makes an effort to put things in normal language. After that post, which is the starting post for each spec, they then go through all the discussion etc. Nothing says you have to read the entire thread and grasp the maths it contains, but it's all summarised in a very clear and understandable way on the first post anyway.

I can understand people being reluctant to go to them originally, it was overwhelming, each spec had multiple threads dealing with different issues, the summary posts were rarer etc, but since they changed the format I just don't get it at all, and people refusing to even look at them comes across as people refusing to make an effort to understand their class.

Cookie's Stirring Rod, Corla's Baton, Wand of Dark Worship and Wand of Untained Power (though it's really a healy priest wand). Corla's has some hit on it, so I would go after that if you're struggling to meet hit cap. There's also Vicious Gladiator's Touch of Defeat, which can be bought for Conquest points. If you enjoy PVP at all it's pretty slick, even with the resil on it. If you have some gold, Theresa's Booklight is a nice BOE wand. I'm linking the heroic version, but there's a regular version that's still leaps and bounds better than what you have.

I can't help you in terms of Warlockin' in up, but there are wand options out there. You just gotta run some heroics and cross your fingers.

Cross your fingers hard. My two mains both use wands. They're both around 350 ilevel and raiding. I've only ever seen one wand drop - Corla's one when I was on my priest, so I didn't roll on it because a guildie warlock was in the group. For both of those toons it's the only slot under either 333 or 346 so I have been actively trying to upgrade them, at least until the planet went "LOL" and made half my city fall down. Other casters in my guild have had the same problem, too, especially since the non-hit ones drop from Grim Batol and the second last boss in Deadmines and people don't often want to run those.

(Also, wand of dark worship doesn't exist except in the ilevel 316 version.)

As far as I know, Destro is the best lock spec for DPS. I don't know much about it in depth, but 12-14k DPS in 25s does seem really low. Even as terribad BM on my hunter, which is the bottom of the barrel DPS wise, I'm doing 15k, and I just started raiding and have no raid gear yet. :3

I'm happy that you're doing well.

The point was, according to WoL parses, destro locks are quite good as compared to other classes/specs, even in entry level gear. SO, if you want to go afflic, that's one thing, but the destro spec is the best for DPS.

But you weren't really helpful. You were just saying her dps was bad, and that the numbers for Destro show it being high dps, facts she already knew. And went on to talk/boast about how your undergeared hunter was better. None of which really helps her problem as a warlock. :-/

Try the other specs and see how you do. No one is demanding that you STAY destro. I mean, if it doesn't work for you then it doesn't work for you.

I can try them, I think. We're comfortable enough with magmaw/omni/halfus that I don't think it will cause a problem for the raid if I do sub-optimal DPS during those bosses during the learning period.

(Last Thursday, when we were supposed to be doing Cho'Gall progression attempts, only eighteen people showed up. Ouch. We managed to pug it up to 21, but even so, I feel I should be proud of my guild for managing to get algaloth, atramedes and chimaeron.)

If you like affliction and can do more damage as affliction, then who cares what the real dps spec is, you can do better as affliction then go for it, are you sure it would drop your numbers?
(I love affliction ;) )

Since I just finished up Therazane dailies, I can't offhand think of anything else I need this solo-demo offspec for. Guess it's off to the affliction table, then!

(Don't suppose anyone knows any good affliction builds I can template off of?)
