Yes and it's reached the end of it's life so it's having sex for the first and only time before it dies. But what a way to go.

Odd, how botany can color one's views. (Bormeliads only bloom once, like a few other longer lives species.)

Interesting thing about orchids.

The second largest group of plants on the Earth (the other being the composites like sunflowers) and other than flowers they have one commercial product. Vanilla.

All those exotic flowers, some secents and when it all comes down out of the 21,950 to 26,049 species (and they do tend cross species and genus lines so they like sex and are not very discriminating about it) other than looking pretty they are just vanilla.

If you like botanical gardens then you'll love the Muttart Conservatory here in Edmonton. With the 4 different glass pyramids, they host 3 different biospheres (Temperate, Tropical, and Arid) and a show pavilion.
