Some of you will have seen this creepy picture which I made to send seasonal shivers up the spines of Gackt Army members:

The foods looks tasty! I like it that there's no meat included (I turned vegetarian four months ago ^^)

The black carrots look like yam (ube in Filipino) to me, if only it doesn't taste like carrots. lol

You have unique veggies there. I haven't seen any dark-colored tomatoes here although I lived/grew up in a province with produce farms.

Thanks for sharing these.

I am mostly vegetarian but I am also a nutrition nazi (ya need to be REALLY careful with the proteins if you drop meat altogether - though most peasant bulk foods like beans on toast, risi e bisi/rice n peas, noodles and beansprouts, dhal and chapati, have the perfect mix to complete the partial proteins that you get with veg).

Ooh - you have purple yams? The ones we mainly import here are large white and fibrous. A bit like piano legs!

Yes, I was looking for unusual veg to make a weird meal. The black carrots seemed less off-putting and odd when everything else was off-putting and odd too!

You're welcome. The weird was too good to waste!

Yep, I get protein from beans and soya. Also I dropped milk from my diet and replaced it with soya milk. It's mainly no meat and no animal fat diet. I still have fish and eggs tho. ^^; I'm thinking of removing fish too this month or maybe that can wait until next year.

Purple yams are my fave! I love everything that is made out of it - ice cream, candies, cakes - mostly desserts. The whites are the ones we use as vegetable.

Oh, I do hope you are careful *flaps at you* - beans and soya (just more beans) is really only a complete protein if you combine it with a grain (rice, wheat, maize, quinoa etc).

I'm worried now. You don't need very much protein at any one time (just a little but often) and the more varied your diet, the more likely it is that you will cover the protein OK (you need to get a full range of the amino acids if you are not to compromise your health - please remember!).

Purple yams? Sound great. Do we have in Hong Kong? Not sure - my mum's favourite is the woo tau (er - kologussi aka taro) or the sweet potato. She likes them deep fried like chips and then dipped in sugar! Purple yam cakes sound wonderful - must look out for those! Anything purple usually makes me happy :=) I never tried cooking those white yams; they look so hairy and tough.

Do you have dessert restaurants where you are? I like these in HK very much but they are almost unknown (they ARE unknown) in the UK. Perhaps I should start one called Purple Yam Heaven

Those veggie dishes look tasty. I've tried black potatoes and black rice, but I've never seen black carrots in the stores. Will keep an eye out for it.

Thanks for letting us know how the taste experiment turned out!

(Oh, and thank you for the cute postcard! I love your altered version of the quote. My turn. I'll see what I can come up with!)

(glad that has arrived OK! We've a long winter ahead so I thought that I would start the counter-winter campaign early - a lama a day keeps the darkness away!)

I most often eat and cook vegetarian food - I love the variety of textures and colours which come with vegetables, as well as the vitamins. Yes, this surely was a taste experiment - the seaweed and black carrot combination was an entirely new idea!

There are a few places here where you can buy unusual varieties, especially the farmers' markets.

I'm pleased that you like the bright veg. There was a little left in the bowls, first, because I had fed the guests a large-ish starter which slowed them down and, second, because I hadn't served myself (those blue dragons you can see there are my plate - I like to share with the dragons)

Definitely you do need to watch Tintin. Apart from anything else, it will inspire you to keep going with the programming when you see what imaginative things can be achieved. It is also wonderful fun :=)

Surely, when you are next a pirate, please feel free to use the name The Black Carrot as you will. I trust that we might meet and raise a glass of rum apiece!

These are all really good ideas. Now I'll be on the lookout for black carrots.

Hello! Happily I live somewhere where you can buy a range of whacky ingredients from most places in the world; the tricky bit is learning how to handle them. I've often had nice, greedy friends from places like the Caribbean, Colombia or Japan who are very pleased to show me what to do with novel food - as long as they get fed!

Thanks for taking a look here.

ha ha - food that scares!

I'd never tried those black carrots or black tomatoes before. There has been a fashion here for strange coloured veg, e.g. yellow courgettes/zucchini, orange radishes, purple cauliflowers, for a few years now but the black carrots and black tomatoes are totally new.

"normal G"?? When did you ever know G to be normal ha ha The YFC eyes are pretty creepy, no? Even without a pumpkin!

Thanks for your visit.

Well, I'm not very familiar with the MV preview (want to wait for the full thing so that I can see the horse!) but chauvinistic, in its widest sense, is a pretty good descriptor for Gackt. Paternalistic and didactic are others, in my view!
