The foods looks tasty! I like it that there's no meat included (I turned vegetarian four months ago ^^)

The black carrots look like yam (ube in Filipino) to me, if only it doesn't taste like carrots. lol

You have unique veggies there. I haven't seen any dark-colored tomatoes here although I lived/grew up in a province with produce farms.

Thanks for sharing these.

I am mostly vegetarian but I am also a nutrition nazi (ya need to be REALLY careful with the proteins if you drop meat altogether - though most peasant bulk foods like beans on toast, risi e bisi/rice n peas, noodles and beansprouts, dhal and chapati, have the perfect mix to complete the partial proteins that you get with veg).

Ooh - you have purple yams? The ones we mainly import here are large white and fibrous. A bit like piano legs!

Yes, I was looking for unusual veg to make a weird meal. The black carrots seemed less off-putting and odd when everything else was off-putting and odd too!

You're welcome. The weird was too good to waste!

Yep, I get protein from beans and soya. Also I dropped milk from my diet and replaced it with soya milk. It's mainly no meat and no animal fat diet. I still have fish and eggs tho. ^^; I'm thinking of removing fish too this month or maybe that can wait until next year.

Purple yams are my fave! I love everything that is made out of it - ice cream, candies, cakes - mostly desserts. The whites are the ones we use as vegetable.

Oh, I do hope you are careful *flaps at you* - beans and soya (just more beans) is really only a complete protein if you combine it with a grain (rice, wheat, maize, quinoa etc).

I'm worried now. You don't need very much protein at any one time (just a little but often) and the more varied your diet, the more likely it is that you will cover the protein OK (you need to get a full range of the amino acids if you are not to compromise your health - please remember!).

Purple yams? Sound great. Do we have in Hong Kong? Not sure - my mum's favourite is the woo tau (er - kologussi aka taro) or the sweet potato. She likes them deep fried like chips and then dipped in sugar! Purple yam cakes sound wonderful - must look out for those! Anything purple usually makes me happy :=) I never tried cooking those white yams; they look so hairy and tough.

Do you have dessert restaurants where you are? I like these in HK very much but they are almost unknown (they ARE unknown) in the UK. Perhaps I should start one called Purple Yam Heaven

The beans we usually have are string beans and of course it's always combined with rice. I'm a rice person. I can even eat rice with just water and salt (just like onigiri but that's rare in here). But once I start eating, it gets scary coz it's hard to stop so I'm putting limits to my rice.

Taro chips? Ah, never tried them! We only cook it with coconut milk and eat them with rice. Do you have sweet potato chips in Hong Kong but deep fried but instead dipped in sugar, just added salt? It's also delicious. My province is the only one that makes that - it's not popular in the country tho.

I think we do have dessert restaurants here but I never go in any of them; it's mostly expensive. LOL (cheapskate) Purple Yam Heaven.. Sounds good! Maybe I can be your yam supplier? Gotta find a farm and start planting. HAHA

That's very good (the rice). Sounds like you are fine! Now I just need to worry about the hour you go to bed ha ha *looks at the clock ( ... )
