Hello! The taste was happily nicer than the look - and very healthy: the hijiki seaweed is rich in iron and calcium.
Oh, you know those special dark tomatoes? They are hard to find here because the English are EXTREMELY unadventurous about food: if they don't recognize something, they don't want to try it. Consequently they seem to live off nothing but bread and cheese and minced beef and potatoes! Plus curry and pizza if someone else makes it :=)
The Black Prince is a very Romantic name. Much better than The Black Carrot ha ha
My family has a country house and land around the house. There we grow vegetables and fruit for ourselves and our families. This variety is the first time we try to plant this past summer. Everyone liked the taste and now we will frequently grow it -) In general it cooking for a good family occupation. Especially on weekends when the whole family gets together. My father loves to invent new dishes and always surprises us with *)
Nice food is a good surprise! Your father has chosen his type of surprise very well.
I can surprise my English friends by just using seaweed or sesame oil in the food, which is sad (because it is not so unusual) and more sad because they don't really enjoy being surprised in this way! Perhaps in the UK people want "comfort food" all the time and you can't really treat a food adventure as "comfort"? That is my theory!
The purple carrots is shown in the drawings made in the Egyptian temple 2000 years BC. In the tenth century purple carrots were grown in Afghanistan, Pakistan, northern Iran -)
Hello! I closed my eyes so that my tongue is not influenced by my eyes (maybe "seeing" beetroot or some dark flavour). Actually it is just as sweet as an orange carrot but the flesh is more dense so you need to chew harder; that's why I chopped it into small pieces for cooking. So, no strong flavours but you need strong teeth :=)
Hangover cure cum snack just means that it serves both purposes - it stops you getting a headache and it satisfies your hunger. So you can say that someone acts as a translator cum roadie (he does both jobs at the same time) or that the dog acted as a guard cum hot water bottle! I think it's just a usage from the latin "cum" meaning "with", but, these days, it's only really used in a half-joking context (and, yes, you need to be careful with that word!)
Ha ha - the dog! Sorry to lose you. I was just being silly - thought of a dog sleeping on the bed being both a guard dog and a source of heat (I knew someone who allowed this - our dog was not allowed on any furniture, not even a chair and certainly not on a bed!).
Hello! ha ha - no, I'd never seen a carrot like that before either!
We were certainly all "well rounded" after the meal - ha ha - cos there was a starter too! I'm keen on minding the nutritional content, especially at this time of year when a healthy immune system really pays off.
As far as I know you can more or less take what you like (probably not alcohol though) - though they like you to buy their stuff for preference. Trouble with their popcorn is, though, it is mostly sugar >_< *doesn't like dentists*

Oui - le film Tintin était bon: beaucoup d'action, pas beaucoup de paroles - c'est mon truc!
J'espère que tu vas bien maintenant et que ta situation s'améliorera. Je ne t'oublie pas :=)

Where did you get those crazy carrots? I can think of nasty things to cook them into for my father (who absolutely HATES carrots)...
