Improving performance on an Xbox 360?

Is there any way to improve the performance of an Xbox 360 without getting a new Xbox? Or am I just out of luck? I bought a refurbished one recently through Gamestop, and it generally works just fine. However there is one game that gives me problems, and it's not the disc as I've tried two copies of the game. I'm trying to play Oblivion, but ( Read more... )

Install the game to the hard drive.

Tried that, and it didn't seem to do any good. :(

I had that happen to me, Oblivion loading forever. Microsoft ended up sending me another 360 . I don't think it's fixable, sorry.

No way in hell you want to play Skyrim on that machine. Skyrim is even more graphic intensive than Oblivion.

It's probably the game. The engine that Oblivion and Fallout is run on is notoriously glitchy and it's hit or miss whether or not one of those games will run smoothly. Although I have to say I've played Oblivian on my XBOX Kinect and it's run fine, so far. Try the game in someone elses XBOX or perhaps one at Game Stop and see what happens.

Bethesda has redone the engine for Skyrim, so I am hoping for a much smoother game experience. :)

Oblivion doesn't run so great in general, but a 5 minute loading time seems kinda crazy. Have you tried it in another xbox just to see? Also you can try giving xbox support a call and see if they have anything to say about it...

I haven't had a chance to try it on another Xbox myself, but a friend loaned me his copy thinking that a different disc would help. It ran just fine on his 360 so we thought at first that it was just the disc I got, but his copy doesn't run any better then mine did on my own 360.

I stopped playing Oblivion on my 360 because it took ages to load. I'm going to have to buy a PS3 before Skyrim comes out, because I want to experience it properly.

I don't know what the problem is, and if hard drive installation doesn't work, it's probably a problem with the console itself. :(

Before you do something crazy, like buying a PS3, please note that Skyrim is a completely different game with a brand new engine behind it (as stated above). The problem likely has nothing whatsoever to do with the graphics, and Skyrim may run on your 360 with zero trouble. Would hate to for you spend money for a new machine when what you've got now might work just fine.

I'm not completely crazy, don't worry! My 360 is pretty old already, and barely has any space. I've been wanting to get a PS3 for a while for the exclusive games and other content too. I just decided it would be the right time to get one corresponding with Skyrim.
