Is there any way to improve the performance of an Xbox 360 without getting a new Xbox? Or am I just out of luck? I bought a refurbished one recently through Gamestop, and it generally works just fine. However there is one game that gives me problems, and it's not the disc as I've tried two copies of the game. I'm trying to play Oblivion, but the load time and lag in the game are horrendous. Trying to talk to someone often takes a couple minutes of loading, and pulling up/scrolling through my inventory is no better. I once timed how long it took to "fast travel" from the time I confirmed the travel to the time it finally loaded. It took 4 minutes and 28 seconds.
I don't get why this game, one that's a few years old, is giving me so many problems. The other games I've played so far; Kameo, Bioshock, Halo 3: ODST, Portal: Still Alive, and Portal 2 have all run perfectly. But this game is refusing to cooperate and it gets really frustrating when things are lagging out to load every few minutes. A console game should never lag like this. -_- The game doesn't have video quality options so I can't try that, and I can't think of anything else that might work short of getting a new 360, and I won't do that. I don't have the money, and I've only had this one about a month. I wouldn't mind getting the new Elder Scrolls game at some point, but if Oblivion is giving me this much trouble I hate to think how Skyrim is going to work.
