Disturbing stories not letting me sleep

I'm catching up on reading all the Short Story and Novella Hugo Award winners. Earlier today, I read Press Enter ▊ by John Varley. All of John Varley's stuff is good and all of it is a bit off. It's from 1984, just after Demon, and is based around computers &ct. Good story, but depressing.

yeah; i watched southpark's "sex ed" episode last night, and i couldn't sleep. something about that part where the mr hankey guy teaches the kindergarteners how to put a condom on a dildo... sans hands.

A few weeks ago, I came away from a Starcraft session convinced that I was running malicious code picked up from the screen.

It makes me wonder if the technology described in Snowcrash isn't farther along than anyone has admitted.

One of my favorite Varley stories is Millineum. A time travel story told primarily from two viewpoints--and a lovely twist at the end.

The book was also made into a movie of the same name...screenplay by Varley. Quite well done, but it didn't have the same twisty end...

My absolute favorite Varley (and one of my top-ten favorite books ever) is Steel Beach. Varley is definitely one of my favorite authors, primarily because his imagination is so wild. I love his ideas and his writing is damn good also.
