Hi.  My name is Shinigami518 and I'm somewhat new to Livejournal, but not new here, though. (I've been to this site many times before finally geting a livejournal account.)  I've decided to post one of my stories here for everyone to see.

Title: A Midsummer Nightmare
Author: Shinigami518
Pairing: Ryan/Colin, Tony/OFC, Josie/Colin (One sided), Greg/Josie (Past, now one sided)
Rating: PG-13 for cursing
Summary: AU, retelling of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream with the cast of WLIIA
Author’s Notes: This is my first fanfic, so be kind. This also was originally written for my Reading shakespeare College class as a final project, but has been re-edited and fixed up.

Act 1, Scene 1

“Are you absolutely sure about this, Eric?”

“Of course I’m sure about it, Tony. He won’t listen to a word I say about it! His mother, God bless her soul, would’ve been able to convince him what he was doing was wrong! Oh, where did I go wrong?” Eric sighed, running a hand through his balding brown hair.

Tony Theseus sighed, running a hand through his short, slick black hair as Eric, his most trusted friend, ranted about his son not wanting to marry a woman Eric thought was right for him. Sure, Tony was one of the richest men in Saskatoon, Canada, but even he had trouble dealing with normal things.

For one thing, he was getting married in several days to his Indian bride Hippolyta. The arrangements were still underway and several things were not finalized, especially the entertainment. Now adding to the trouble was his best friend, Eric Mochrie, the owner of a respectable cafe, who had just informed him that his only son, Colin Hermes Mochrie, has refused to marry a young English woman Eric had chosen, Josie Demetrio Lawrence.

“Well, where is young Colin, old friend?” Tony asked.

“Waiting in the living room with Josie and that... that... that Ryan Lysander Stiles!” Eric spat out the name of the young man causing him grief as if it was a racial slur. Tony prayed that Eric was just overreacting to the whole situation, so all he did was nod.

The two entered the living room where Ryan, Colin and Josie sat, waiting for them. Ryan and Colin sat together on a couch while Josie occupied an armchair, shooting death glares at Ryan.

Ryan was a tall, 20 year old man from Seattle, Washington with curly golden brown hair and emerald green eyes. Colin was slightly shorter than Ryan, but a year older with short sandy brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Both young men were holding hands, Ryan looking calm while Colin looked confident, both having a hint of nervousness in their eyes. Josie, a woman from England, had long, dark chocolate brown hair and dark brown eyes. She was very pretty, but at that moment, she had a look of anger on her face.

Eric glared at Ryan once he entered the room. “Get your hands off my son, you freak!” he snarled. Ryan returned the glare.

“Go suck on a monkey’s nipple.” Ryan spat acidly. Colin placed his free hand on Ryan’s shoulder, calming him down. Tony sighed, realizing this was going to be harder than he thought. Tony pulled up a wooden chair and sat down, facing Colin.

“Colin, listen, I’ve known you ever since you were a little tyke and I’ve known your father even longer than that. Now, listen, Josie is a wonderful and kind girl and she really likes you a lot, I’ve seen it.” Tony began in a gentle voice.

“Ryan’s wonderful, too.” Colin said softly, glancing at the man next to him. Josie rolled her eyes in response and Eric huffed loudly.

“Look, Eric just wants what’s best for you and…” Tony said.

“Hah, all Eric wants is what’s best for himself!” Ryan scoffed, crossing his arms.

“Ryan…” Colin whispered, placing a hand on Ryan’s arm.

“I just what Colin to be happy and marry Josie so-.” Eric stated.

“No, you just want no one to know your son is gay so you’re forcing him to marry a woman in hopes no one finds out!” Ryan snapped, standing up in anger, hands balled in tight fists. Tony gave a haggard sigh and covered his face, while Colin looked on in worry, his hands clenching his khaki pants in concern.

“That’s not true! I’m just doing what’s best!” Eric protested, walking over towards Ryan.

“For who? Colin or yourself?!” Ryan asked, narrowing his eyes as he stood face-to-face with Eric, Ryan towering slightly over the older man.

“Listen, you little son of a-!”

“Why don’t you play hide and go fu-!”

“STOP FIGHTING!” Colin cried out, standing up. Ryan and Eric turned to face Colin, startled by his outburst.

“Look, Tony. I love Colin, most likely as much as Ryan loves him, and I would love to be his wife.” Josie spoke for the first time, her soft British accent making her sound really sincere.

“But I’m not in love with you, Josie. Besides, you know that Greg loves you.” Colin told Josie. Greg Hailey Proops was one of Colin’s best friends and a good friend of Ryan’s. He also had a serious crush on Josie.

“Well I don’t love him.” Josie stated, turning away while crossing her arms.

“Then why did you sleep with him for several months?” Ryan asked bluntly. Josie shot to her feet, her cheeks red with embarrassment.

“That was only a one night stand and it was two months ago!” Josie protested.

“But he still loves you… and I bet you still love him back, am I right?” Ryan asked, crossing his arms.

“I DO NOT!” Josie shouted, even more embarrassed.

“That’s enough!!” Tony, finally having enough of the arguing, snapped, stomping his foot on the hard wood floor to get everyone’s attention. He shook his head, massaging his forehead.

“Alright, now it’s obvious we can’t settle this today, so Colin; I want you to listen closely. Tomorrow, you must make a choice. You can follow your father’s orders and marry Josie, or…*sigh* I really hate to do this, but I may end up sending you to a de-programming seminar.” Tony explained. Colin gasped loudly.

“What?!” Ryan shouted, not believing what he just heard.

“But Tony…” Colin pleaded.

“You heard what he said, son. Now we’ll await your choice by tomorrow.” Eric reprimanded. He turned away from the young man. “And it better be the right one.” He added before leaving the room with Tony and Josie following him close behind.

A few minutes later…

“Col, you look so pale. Are you alright?” Ryan asked, placing a hand on the shaking man’s shoulder. They had just exited the front door of Tony’s large house and Colin had been very silent for the past several minutes since Tony’s announcement. After a few seconds, Colin looked up at Ryan with tears in his chocolate brown eyes.

“Why wouldn’t I be alright, Ry? You heard what Tony and Father said in there. There’s no way I can stay together with you anymore. I can marry Josie and be miserable for the rest of my life or be sent to that stupid brainwashing seminar and be even more miserable in my heart!” Colin cried, a few tears rolling down his face.

“Ah, your dad’s a douche bag anyway, Colin. And I think Tony’s just aggravated due to the fact he’s getting hitched in a few days. Besides, remember what I told you about my pop when he found out about me being gay? Damn jerk threw me out of the house at the tender age of 17.” Ryan said, trying to cheer up the crying man next to him. He frowned slightly at the memory of being kicked out. His father had reacted quite violently to his son’s coming out, but his mother, one of the kindest women he had ever known, gave him support and enough money to hitch a ride out of town.

“I… I just wish I could show him that I really love you and I truly want to spend my life with you.” Colin sighed sadly. Ryan echoed the sigh, staring up at the sky. It broke his heart seeing Colin so vulnerable. If only there was a way to show Eric that the two of them were serious about each other. If only…

The idea came to Ryan’s brain like lightning hitting a metal rod during a storm.

“Well, we could always elope,” Ryan suggested. Colin looked up at him in surprise. Ryan continued, putting an arm around Colin’s shoulders. “Look, remember my cousin Sandi? I showed you that picture of her the other day. She’s a lesbian and her folks are cool with it. Hell, they were the reason I was able to come here in the first place. Look, they can help us out. They live in a small town near Calgary, Alberta, so we’d have to leave here as soon a possible… so maybe… we can leave tonight, head over there and Sandi and her folks can help us get married.” Colin gave a giant smile before he gave Ryan a fierce hug.

“Oh Ryan, you really are a sweetheart!” Colin smiled as Ryan returned the hug, patting him on the back. Ryan took a deep breath, the sensation of being this close to Colin almost sending him into a state of ecstasy.

“Does the phrase ‘Get a room’ mean anything to you two?” Someone asked from behind Ryan, causing them to break apart. They spun around and saw a man with curly brown hair, blue eyes and black rimmed glasses, a slight smirk on his face.

“Oh, hey Greg, what’s up?” Colin asked, blushing slightly. Greg let out a sharp laugh as he walked up to them.

“‘What’s up?’ ‘What’s UP?!’ The fact that Josie is fawning all over you Colin and making your pop hook you up with her is what’s up! You know I’m crazy about Josie and your letting Eric hook you two up!” Greg snapped, getting in Colin’s face. To say that Greg was upset would’ve been a vast understatement.

“Hey, hey, hey! Take it easy, Greg! You’re not the only one pissed about this!” Ryan told Greg, separating him from Colin. Greg backed off, but was still mad.

“Yeah, if I don’t marry Josie, my father and Tony are gonna send me to some de-programming seminar to make me straight! And I don’t want to marry Josie. Not only because I love Ryan, but because I know you love her a lot, Greg.” Colin explained.

“But she still hates your guts, though.” Ryan added.

“Damnit, she’s still pissed at me for calling out my old girlfriend’s name in bed that one time two months ago.” Greg fumed. Ryan and Colin winced, knowing very well doing that was a strict no-no in the world of romance.

“Well we’ve got a plan that’ll benefit everyone.” Ryan smiled. Greg raised an eyebrow in interest.

“Really? What’s that?” Greg asked, curiously. Ryan and Colin held hands, smiles on their faces.

“We’re gonna elope to Ryan’s aunt and uncle’s home near Calgary.” Colin smiled. Greg gained a look of surprise on his face.

“Whoa, really?! That’s ah, that’s great, you guys. But, uh, are you serious about doing this?” Greg asked, his eyes widen behind his glasses. Both men nodded, their smiles fading to identical looks of seriousness. Greg let out a sigh, running his hands through his hair.

“Shit, you guys’re really serious about this. Not that I blame you. I mean, your dad’s a bastard with an elm tree up his ass.” Greg looked up at the two men, a small smile on his face.

“I know.” Colin sighed, rubbing the back of his head shyly. Ryan let go of Colin’s hand before turning to face him.

“Col, you better run home and start packing some stuff. It’d be best if we leave tonight as soon as possible, you understand?” Ryan told his boyfriend.

“Alright. You better hurry, too, Ry,” Colin agreed. He turned to face Greg. “Josie is all yours, Greg. Hopefully, she’ll forget about her silly crush on me and go on with her life and fall into your arms again.” Colin told Greg.

“Thanks, man.” Greg smiled. Ryan and Colin left Greg alone in front of the mansion as they went to their homes to get ready to elope. Greg frowned and kicked at the ground, sending several pebbles down the sidewalk.

“Damn, why do they get all the good luck in love? It’s not fair. I mean, I love Josie, but she loves Colin, who loves Ryan.” Greg started pacing like crazy, talking out loud to himself. He stopped walking. “Maybe… maybe if I tell Josie about Ryan and Colin’s plans… then maybe… she might fall in love with me again.” Greg grinned, a bit evilly. “It might work… It might work!” Still grinning, Greg ran off to tell Josie what was going on.

More to come, so read and review...
