[Raine has been set up at the barracks for a few days now, as she has been in a coma due to her injuries. Thanks to Doctor McCoy and likely some others who were assisting, most of her major wounds had been attended to, with most of the bruises finally starting to fade, and her wings still a little damaged ( Read more... )

[Someone else who has come across an unconscious Raine in her tour of a half-destroyed village previously-- this is Nami coming by to check on you.]

[Raine is restlessly looking around - she really can't see much, sequestered as she is. When Nami enters her line of vision, she acknowledges the younger woman with a small nod.]

[Oh well, that's a relief.]

You're awake! [Don't mind her, she'll just sink down on her knees next to the cot.] How are you feeling?

[Nami's exuberance is given a very faint attempt at a smile, though at the question, can only shrug slightly. The shrug is also an attempt to shift her position to better look at her visitor to gauge her health.]

[With things suddenly having gotten much weirder, Caesar is by to check on his housemate. He hadn't been by the barracks much, to be honest - they were lively enough as it was, and they didn't need him there. But a bit later in the afternoon when he does come by, he definitely makes sure to see how Raine's doing.

...and ohoho, she seems to be awake now.]

Took you long enough.

[He's totally not just here to say, "I told you so."]

[Why does everyone keep saying that. In any case, there's one housemate accounted for. Raine lifts her eyes to nod and acknowledge Caesar's presence, carefully studying the young man for signs of injury. It's a habit. Even if she doesn't exactly remember how this happened yet. How frustrating.]

... how long?

[Fortunately, the young strategist is in good condition. He's managed to avoid trouble so far! Caesar shoves his hands in his pockets and tilts his head, considering her question. It was vague, so he'll just go ahead and explain, um. Everything. He figures her memory might be fuzzy anyway.]

The earthquake happened on the morning of the fourth. You were immediately knocked unconscious then. The temporary clinic was established on the fifth, and that's when you were brought here. Today is the ninth, so you've been out for five days, and here at the barracks for four.

[Ask vaguely and get a lot of information. Raine didn't want to ask vaguely, of course, but verbalizing was just as difficult as keeping track of all of that information. She takes a few moments to consider the dates and length of time. Five days... since the fourth? Since the earthquake? ... This was ridiculous.]

You're... unhurt?

[Frey is walking around the barracks, checking to make sure people are comfortable. He's no real healer, but he figures he can help in whatever way he can.
Upon noticing a women trying to look around, he walks over.] Do you need some help Ma'am?

[This young man was a stranger. If she were in her right frame of mind she would have been able to recognize him somewhat just from his general presence on the journal network and some of his contact with Albert, but this situation wasn't quite helpful for retrieving useful information like that.

He catches her at a slightly more agitated time, as she had just given up on another attempt to sit herself up. She blinks a little, slightly startled at his approach.]

... ah. Who...?

[Frey himself sadly doesn't recognize her either, though he's heard of her plenty.] My name is Frey, I'm helping out here. [he kneels down next to the bed.] Do you need some help getting up? Or are you in any pain?

[Ah, the worst position for someone who tries so hard to be self-reliant in times like this. But luckily she's been learning that it's okay to accept help in certain circumstances. Even if it's from a stranger. Regardless, there were two questions asked, so one will have to take priority. It takes a few moments to get the words out properly.]

Ah... just sore, a little ...

[It's late in the day when Albert drops by the barracks. He's been busy keeping track of things going on outside, especially with the sky having changed again.

He comes by Raine's bed, frowning slightly.]

How are you feeling?

[She's just woken up from a bit of a nap, for starters. It's been a long day, with a long line of visitors.

... and it's Albert. She tries to sit herself up, but that's not going to work as planned. Next she just tries to look him over while trying to find the words to answer his query.]

... want the list ...?

[When Raine tries to sit up, Albert rests a hand on her shoulder and gently keeps her from doing so.]

I suppose that tells me everything I need to know. [He looks around for a moment, then sits down next to Raine's bedside.] You had me worried.

... long list. [She probably couldn't name it all if she tried, so she's glad he's leaving it at that. The second part of what he says gives her pause, though, and she looks at him with an apologetic gaze.]

They said... days. It's been... days?

[Fenimore has no idea who this is, but, after helping out at the triage over the past few days, she's come to recognize the white-haired woman who's always unconscious as a constant. When she notices the woman has woken up, she leaves McCoy to deal with her, since Fenimore is totally unqualified for initial coma-awakening. However, next time she's passing and no one is attending her or visiting, she crouches next to the bed and asks in a gentler tone than she usually uses:] Are you thirsty?

[... There's something vaguely familiar about this girl, but right now Raine's in no real state of mind to place it. Instead she'll nod politely to the girl's question.]

[She returns the nod.] I'll be right back. [And she doesn't wait for a response before she heads off.

There's a bit of a delay in her return--while filling the glass, she's realized that she's not entirely sure if Raine will be able to sit up enough to drink. She's unable to think of a better solution, though, and she's not willing to disturb the others working in the barracks to ask about something that mightn't be a problem. So, after spending some time thinking about it, she comes back to Raine's bed and crouches next to it again, holding the glass up so that Raine will be able to see it.] Hey. Do you think you'll be able to drink from this?

[action] wise_maiden August 10 2010, 15:54:16 UTC
[She gives the glass a thoughtful look. Her attempts at sitting up thus far on her own haven't gone well, and the other times she's had a drink, she's had help.

But that's a lot to verbalize. She attempts to sit herself up instead, but Fenimore can probably see what a struggle that is.]
