Also, tonight I finally put up some glow-in-the-dark stars! This makes me immensely happy. I've been waiting to scatter the ones on the ceiling until I manage to acquire a stepladder, but it occurred to me I could at least put up Orion on a closet door. So I did

But I definitely agree that people make a huge difference in a shared space! My new Flatmate is so much better than my previous housemates, which has helped me lots in settling in.

Ahem. Yes, I'm definitely a fan of the ol' internets (though recently, my time on them has all been for school -- wtf third year of law school?). But to answer your actual question, a living place becomes a home when I:
- have a definite location for the bowl that holds my keys and watch
- have organized my closet by sleeve length and color
- have spilled and/or broken something
That last one usually takes me, oh, two hours? Max? I should really just give in and start preemptively breaking bottles of champagne on the threshold of a new place. :-)

Pictures on the wall - I can't bear to see completely bear walls
My DVDs and books on their shelves
Just my general clutter - I've moved around a lot so in some ways I feel like simply having my things around me makes me feel at home

Oh, yes, bare walls are sad. Though I think they affect me more when I'm moving out of a place (like, "oh the walls are bare, that really means I'm leaving"). I'm still waiting to decorate my new walls until I get the new artwork I ordered. *bounce*
