the stars tonight

Sep 07, 2008 21:27

Also, tonight I finally put up some glow-in-the-dark stars! This makes me immensely happy. I've been waiting to scatter the ones on the ceiling until I manage to acquire a stepladder, but it occurred to me I could at least put up Orion on a closet door. So I did ( Read more... )

That's cool that you're so fluid like that. I'm very particular about my living spaces, so it takes me a while to fully adjust.

But I definitely agree that people make a huge difference in a shared space! My new Flatmate is so much better than my previous housemates, which has helped me lots in settling in.

That's a good question. I think my thing is organized closets. When things are where they're supposed to be and I can find everything I need easily just by opening a door, then I'm happy. Some measure of clutter helps too, though (like on desk and coffee table).

Oh, and it absolutey CANNOT be home without internet.

Dude, I have so much closet space here, it's crazy! I am sort of baffled by it because I've had tiny closets for several years now (including one at Bryn Mawr that was barely deep enough to fit a pair of shoes in on the floor; that room was definitely a servant's quarters back in the day!). So, yeah, organized closets are nice.

And of course internet! My friend propinquitine would agree whole-heartedly on that one. :)

HOME IS WHERE THE WIFI IS!!1!!

Ahem. Yes, I'm definitely a fan of the ol' internets (though recently, my time on them has all been for school -- wtf third year of law school?). But to answer your actual question, a living place becomes a home when I:

- have a definite location for the bowl that holds my keys and watch
- have organized my closet by sleeve length and color
- have spilled and/or broken something

That last one usually takes me, oh, two hours? Max? I should really just give in and start preemptively breaking bottles of champagne on the threshold of a new place. :-)

Hee, Orion. Spent half an hour arguing where it is when we were going home from the pub on Saturday night. :-) In the end we decided that it´s probably too early to see it, since it´s a winter constelation. Otherwise we might be still standing there. :-)

Orion is my favourite constellation! :) He should be showing up in a month or two. He might be around now in the wee hours of the morning, though, in case you feel inclined to go searching after another pub argument. ;)

YAY! Glow in the dark stars are FTW!

Pictures on the wall - I can't bear to see completely bear walls
My DVDs and books on their shelves
Just my general clutter - I've moved around a lot so in some ways I feel like simply having my things around me makes me feel at home

I love my glow-in-the-dark stars! :)

Oh, yes, bare walls are sad. Though I think they affect me more when I'm moving out of a place (like, "oh the walls are bare, that really means I'm leaving"). I'm still waiting to decorate my new walls until I get the new artwork I ordered. *bounce*

Stars are good. But bookcases filled is better for me. And my favorite fan
art pics of McShep and MorseLewis are
now hanging in my room. And finally my computer which is now my lifeline as I have become disabled. It keeps me company and connected to fandom. I'm glad you are settling down in your new home.

Mmm, fanart. I should have a fanart corner.

And yay computers! They are awesome for connectedness. I'm glad you have that window on the world. I think it's so cool how we can meet awesome people around the world without leaving our homes. :)
