Sekrit Project Post

And now a specifically-friends-locked post to exclude people who haven't received their presents yet.

I made a jellyfish for Gill's birthday.  By rights it should have been three, but if I'd had to make two more I'd have cried.  It turned out much harder than it was marked as in the book, but my only consolation is that the good folks on Ravelry ( Read more... )

My tip for sock knitting: you know where the pattern wants you to knit the entire length of the leg in ribbing? Don't. Do about two inches in ribbing and then change to stocking stitch. The sock will go much faster. (Socks, in any case, do not take as long as you think they will.)

Fortunately apart from the normal ribbed cuff, they're all stocking stitch, with an occasional colour-stripe to enliven it.

I'm planning on doing the variant with the thin stripes.

They should go reasonably fast then. I find I take anything from three to six weeks to do a pair of socks (in sock-weight yarn) for Patrick, depending on how much knitting time I have/how bolshy my bad wrist decides to be. Even the very first pair I knitted only took 5.5 weeks. (We won't talk about how my first pair for me took three months; they were the ones I was stupid enough to follow the intsruction to knit the leg wholly in ribbing.)

Have you seen these ones - http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/such-a-slytherin and http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/go-gryffindor ? I know you've got a pattern already but I thought they might amuse you

Nice. The ones I have are a basic stripe-pattern modelled on the later scarves.
The jellyfish is my first attempt at multi-coloured knitting, so I think these may be beyond me for now. Hopefully not much further to go though.

I'm working on it :p The jellyfish bell is the first multi-coloured knitting I've tried, so I'm learning. (The vents on your Dalek are done in a different colour).
But he is on the list (literally - I have Ravelry to keep track of these things).
