No, not Hanukkah

Today is Diwali, the Hindu 'Festival of Lights'. Now we're not Hindus, but we have a Hindu member in our family now - Arjun! So Arjun and Abeer decided to decorate the path to the front door with diyaas [oil lamps]. But we don't have any oil lamps here. So we just settled for tea-lights.. wax candles that don't last very long ( Read more... )

Prettyful! Presumably your parents don't have a problem with you somewhat celebrating a hindu festival? And what's this about a hindu member of you family? Did I miss that bit?

Naw, my parents got a pleasant surprise when they returned from the mosque - prettyful decorations!

Hindu member of the family = Arjun, my roommate. He's living with us 'cuz he's joined a university here... and he's Papa's friend's son. Sleeps in my bed ;)

Happy Diwali! (well, I don't know if that's the right greeting...) What does your excessively-loud (nah, not really!) shirt say?

Happy Diwali to you too!

My shirt doesn't really say anything. I tried reading its Devnagri script, but it doesn't mean anything. Just random Sanskrit words, repeated.

Really? Bright orange with white/cream-colored pants? Isn't the light-dark combination in fashion anymore?

Wasn't fondling anything!

He's not wearing a dress, Pebsy, he's wearing a kurta, which is a traditional Indian top. It's really long - reaches your knees - but guys always look hot in it.

Hey, what "forest"?! You obviously haven't seen some of my uncles shirtless.

Actually, it's not a sacred Hindu thread - it's a sacred Shi'ite thread from the imambargah. I was just being non-chalant and wearing it as an accessory!

Orange is my color, but I'm still very much in support of the disengagement/convergence plan!

Those WERE Indian clothes. Except for the jeans of course ;)
Thanks, Sababah!

Thanks, all the candles have gone out now and it's starting to get cold outside.

I've uploaded the pictures here on Multiply, but I didn't upload Pinky's photo. I can send that to you separately if you like.
