Chibnall?! Noooooo...!!!

Only kidding, I think. I'm sure you've all seen the momentous news by now; the king is dead (metaphorically speaking), long live the king!Well...two years from now, anyway. I suspect right now the more pressing revelation is that we're only getting an Xmas special in 2016 (possibly due to international sporting competitions clogging up Auntie Beeb' ( Read more... )

:D Yes to all of this. I'm willing to give Chibnall the benefit of the doubt. I'm sad we won't see anything until late 2016 and then spring over a year from now. Boo!

One of my ex co-workers is convinced the BBC will pull the plug on the whole show before Chibnall gets his chance. IDK; I hope not!

Well, I suppose nothing's certain in life (certainly not for the BBC at the moment) but I suspect that if there was a realistic prospect of Who being axed at this moment, they wouldn't have so publicly announced the appointment of a new high-profile showrunner or been so specific about when Moffat's last season is going to be aired. Obviously, there's some reason probably relating to budgets or somebody's scheduling why it can't be done this year, but I do think it will be back next year.

I'm on the side of happy ones :) I hope last Moffat's year will be even better than the previous one, and as I'm a huge fan of Broadchurch, both season 1 and 2, I look forward to see Chibnall as a showrunner. His episodes of Doctor Who were light and adventurous, and I liked very much almost all of them (Dinosaurs on a Spaceship being an exception) so I think the future of the show is in safe hands. I'm just curious whether Peter Capaldi will stay. On one hand, I don't want him to go. On the other hand, I'd like to see how Moffat would handle his regeneration.

I elaborated my reaction on my journal: http://alumfelga.livejournal.com/10262.html

I personally would like Capaldi to stay as long as he wants to do it, but sadly I think it seems likely that he will go at the end of S10 or in the 2017 Xmas special (assuming there is one) and leave the field clear for Chibnall to start with his own Doctor. That was the way RTD and Moffat did it, anyway. I'd say I hope I'm wrong about that, but that might be doing a disservice to whoever gets cast as Thirteen, because for all we know he (or she) might be the best Doctor yet.

You might be right about Peter leaving, and I'm not sure I'd like a big reset as it was with RTD/Moffat change. I always felt we as the audience need some time to say goodbye to one Doctor and accept the new one, and that should be the topic of each Doctor's first episode. Both in Christmas Invasion and Deep Breath, we were allowed to still be sad about the previous Doctor's departure (however, I think it was handled much better in Christmas Invasion, as I didn't struggle with Capaldi's age which was always fine by me, it was his lack of general interest), but in The Eleventh Hour, we were just presented a new face and said "this is a new Doctor now". No reassuring words that it was okay to mourn the Tenth, a ten minute scene of throwing away food instead *eye roll*. I don't want the new era to start by pretending Moffat's era never happened, like Moffat did with RTD's era. I don't want Twelfth to be forgotten on-screen as soon as he leaves ( ... )

I'm glad it's not Gatiss.

That having been said, we've also got some Ten/Donna audios from Big Finish coming up. Those will be good to tide over. :)

That's very true; there are plenty of things to occupy us in the meantime. :)

I didn't care for the direction the show has taken under Moffat, but I doubt his leaving is going to change things much, tbh. Chris Chibnall is another one of the same handful of guys who's been writing for the show for years, and I really would have liked to see a real shake-up, someone entirely new who would bring in different ideas and a more diverse group of writers, but I wasn't holding my breath for it. I'll probably watch Chibnall's premiere episode just to give him a chance, but I don't know if I'll ever start watching New Who again, tbh. I'm sadly at the point where I can't find anything left in it of what I first fell in love with ( ... )

Heh, yes, I'm kidding about Tumblr. I've lurked over there and it's an absolute pit of vipers as far as I can see. Not just Who fandom, either, the whole place. I too will stick with LJ as long as it's still here, thank you very much. ;)

I like Moffat's work, but I can totally see the aspects of it that other people don't like. And to be honest, I don't see anything about Chibnall that suggests he would be any better than Moffat. There are some aspects of his previous work for Who and Torchwood that I would be very unhappy to see imposed on the whole show once he's in charge. However, I'm trying not to prejudge him. I will try to be optimistic about him until he proves me wrong.

I have a slight cinch that the Season 36 Companion will start her era by being in the Class spinoff propably as one of the main character. If not, I hope she will be from another time period or an alien, I've actually made up a new Trakenite companion named Jadan.

I hadn't actually thought of that, but I think it's a very good call. It would be a good way of making Class more relevant by tying it directly into the parent show and the new era. I too would like to see a companion from another time or another planet, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting. ;)

Yeah. Chibnall propably knows his thing and knows that a time travel show should'nt just have companions from present-day Britain\England that "become special". Also, the Class spinoff is being made by Patrick Ness, not Chris Chibnall ( ... )
