Ch-ch-changes!

Hot topic, isn't it?

Chris Chibnall has finally realised Broadchurch wasn't, in fact, Doctor Who, and signed the right contract ;) It's very amusing that some actors got jobs in Broadchurch after they left Doctor Who, and now Chibnall goes back there, as soon as season 3 is complete. That confirms there won't be a fourth season of Broadchurch, though; we always knew it, I suppose but it's still sad because Alec and Ellie are such wonderful characters. Well, we still have season 3 to come, and I'm sure it's going to be as brilliant as the first two. Filming starts in May!

As long as I remember, there's been a lot of speculation about Steven Moffat's successor. For obvious reasons, I thought Chibnall was a perfect choice, but I didn't believe he'd be interested in the job; I thought he was going to continue doing his own projects, like Broadchurch. So I'm really happy to hear he's enough fannish about Doctor Who to do it. 42, The Power of Three, The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood were all excellent episodes; Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, which, by the way, I thought was written by Moffat until today, in my opinion was his only slip. I hope he'll make the show more about adventures and less about huge, live-and-death mysteries and events; less gloomy and more light; more about the characters than about plot twists. With his experience in Doctor Who and Broadchurch (I should probably mention Torchwood, too but I can't think of it as of particular episodes written by different people, I see only the whole thing), I believe he's able to make Doctor Who bright and shiny again. To take the best from Moffat's and RTD's eras and make the new one his own.

Meanwhile, Steven Moffat has one more year. One more year to give the show his best ideas, to develop all story arcs he's interested in and to answer all questions he's asked. It's a long time. After that, I wonder if he'll come back sometimes to write an episode. Imagine seeing his name under a season 12 episode's title, the anticipation, and the joy when the episode turns out to be brilliant. Like it was before he took over. Not that he was - is - a 100% bad showrunner but we surely need a change. And that particular change feels very good.

The bad news is - no Doctor Who episodes, except a Christmas special, this year. Well, no season 10 could top the audios with the Tenth Doctor that come out in May anyway so maybe it's good there's no competition :) Besides, I'm a Sherlockian for five years. If I learned anything in Sherlock fandom, is how to wait.
